How much wax do I buy?

Hi everyone
this is my first thread so bear with me, have just done wax course and all a bit confusing which system etc to buy, am going into a salon to rent chair shortly so would like some advice, think am gonna buy Hive 1000cc pot, would like to try perron rigot, think someone rec one of their waxes as dood for all skin types can anyone help, also how much will i need to buy at first and what else would you buy at first to go with it, would anyone rec i buy a roller system aswell for legs etc, sorry i sound so stupid, but all so confusing

I am a big fan of roller systems as they are soooo quick!! The hive one is fab and you can buy the whole kit at salons direct. You can shop online.
I also have pot wax. I have a salon system heater. I chose this because you can stick the pots directly into it and take them out when you are finished. I also thought it would be good to put paraffin wax into, as you can get it in the pots aswell.
The wax i use is by hive and it's tea tree. I would get about 4 pots to start you off. I hope that helps? x

have you looked at salon serve? they do loads of wax heaters and rollers and also the pot wax is really cheap. I also use tea tree wax and love it

definatly roller ones!! honey pots are ok but messy for both you and client. clean and easy are good they do it on salon serve too

Hi, your best bet is to drop kim lawless a pm, she trains using perron rigot so would be able to give you the best advice on that brand and a good starter set up.
As a waxing client I personally prefer it when the therapist uses a pot and spatula
I find the roller systems drag my skin/hair and it can be quite uncomfortable.

If the roller wax is dragging on your skin then the wax is not warm enough.There is no reason why it should be uncomfortable. Its still spreading wax on, the same as a spatula does and takes half the time

the roller shouldnt drag if the wax is warm enough??? if the pot wax is too cool it would drag too.

Im going to sound a right old killjoy here but when you say shortly,how shortly after you have just trained are you starting out on your own.

Maybe my advice is out of turn but from your post you sound very inexperienced.I apologise if i am wrong.


Try and get plenty of practice on all sorts of hair with a wax and system you really know well before you take the enormous step of starting your own business, remember its all on your own head if you bruise,skin or just hurt someone too much and people are always willing to mention a bad experience to everyone else, just make sure you are ready.

I would start out with two 1000cc Hive heaters. One for warm wax and one for hot wax. When you get busy, you'll be like a lot of us Pro Waxers on here and you'll have several pots going.

I recommend Perron Rigot, Cristal Ocean strip wax which is hypo-allergenic and goes on very thin, so very economical. Then Euroblonde for your non strip (hot wax).

If you're not going to specialise in waxing only, then buy a few cans and a few bags. Or you could buy a box of each and save a pound per can or bag. Good luck. xx

oh thanks kim, that really helps, that other reply put me off a bit (not the one from you) WHEN I said starting out I meant with waxing not with everything and as long as I am honest with my clients (who have all backed my decision) then I should be ok, I wont be charging anyone till I feel confident that I am good enough, but there is so many waxes and systems sometimes we need a bit of guidance from the experts, think Im gonna try that perron rigot, can you use same one for all strip wax and skin types and do the pots fit straight into the heaters, once again thanx for your help..xx

I use the cristal ocean for all my strip waxing. It's hypoallergenic so is suitable for all skin types. The pots fit perfectly into the 1000cc hive heater.

thanks for that, can you just pop the pot in then, cos have heard some people saying that the pot didnt fit ( i could be wrong tho) have read that much my mind is boggled, but i cant seem to stop coming on here lol, so just to sum up, if i buy a hive 1000cc heater and the perron rigot crystal ocean wax (i can use that one for all clients and skin types) and then just pop the pots in, what about when the pot needs topping up will i have to heat it up then pour it in, sorry i sound like a right idiot dont i, and buy a few pots to start with, is that right, any other tips you can give me, also can you just keep using the same wax over and over..xx

No you can't use the same wax over and over. The cristal ocean comes in 800g tins. The tins fit perfectly in the heater. If you think there isn't enough wax to last the day then put a new tin in. It's good to get some empty tins. When your pot is running low, pour it into an empty pot and then put a new full fresh pot in. When that is running low, you can add that to your empty pot too and eventually that empty pot will be full
You can buy empty tins from Thalgo and they are the same size as the Perron Rigot tins.

Ok i use Perron Rigot cleanser. I use jasmine oil from Perron Rigot but any carrier oil is fine. I prefer paper strips. The cotton ones are too flexible. The wax strips i buy are one of the cheaper ones but they're the best i've found! After waxing i apply........you guessed it, perron rigot moisturising milk and cooling gel-lol
I do use Berins hot wax though as i prefer that to the perron rigot one but they are both very good.
It's a lot to take in when you do one day courses. It's just a case of practicing really.
Oil is so much better than talc and your clients will love it!

thankyou so much, you've been so helpful, it's starting to make a bit more sense now, think i'm def gonna try the perron rigot, and the 1000cc hive heater and see how i get on, not gonna try the hot wax yet as have not used that at all, fingers crossed... thanks again...xx

yes you are all so helpful, sorry ive not been on for a while, had probs with laptop and have been opening my new room in the salon, I have ended up buying the Hive roller system, just to see how I get on with it, haven't ruled out the pot though, the Hive one came with 4 different coloured cartridges but no info as to which is which, has anyone used this and can you advise me on it, also what setting do you find works best once its warmed up, thanks..xx

do you only have the roller system? just worrying as how will you deal with the bleeders
surely you cant reuse a roller system if someone has blood spots?
i bought a roller system but didnt use it and stuck to using a pot system
