Okay question... I know there are tons of different styles of products. I can think of at least 3 different styles of gels, plus acrylic, wraps of both types...
Alot of the shops in my area are big on the "powder gels". I really only do acrylic and i don't have expierence in powdergel. I do offer a resin style no light gel for temp sets and what we call "weekend sets". Great for a nice weekend and soaks off in ten mins but looks like acrylics. How am i supposed to keep up with the foreign shops when i have no idea what they are putting on clients and the clients don't even know themselves? i can't afford to buy ten different systems, just because they all have something different on.
I often have to ask my clients "did they put you under a light? was it brushed on? was it powder?" I'm afraid of losing new clients because of the product doesn't mesh? but i don't want to charge them all to put new sets on, i just don't feel right about that. what would you all do?

One good thing is that all products are acrylic based and so they all can be laid over each other with no ill effects. All acrylic products stick to each other. You wouldn't want to mix product lines by using say, one brand of liquid and another of powder etc, but overlaying one product with another is not mixing.

The look will not be as nice or as perfect as a full set done using one brand, but if that is what the client wants then you are safe to do it. I wouldn't guarantee anything to the client, but if they are willing and don't want to pay for a full set then what I am saying is, you are safe to go ahead and rebalance using a different product.

well i have noticed with a couple of my new clients that are wearing the "powder gel", (I have no idea what brand it is so i can't call the manufacturer) that when i rebalance using my product that the area where my product and the old product meet seems to breakdown really fast. I try to make sure that the old product is blended really well and i prep like normal, but it seems the old product wants to lift underneath the new product. My part sticks just fine, so could it be the other tech's poor work? I really need to trouble shoot this so i can keep these new clients coming in.

If the product done by the other tech is wanting to lift then chances are that it was never truly bonded to the surface .. although it is a possibility that your filing the area vigorously has loosened it too ..... could be '6 of one and half a dozen of the other' as we say. Hard to say. If it happens all the time then you should really soak off if you can and the client will let you and have a clean start. It is always the best scenario. Most clients if they commit to go to a new tech are fairly reasonable about doing this.

well with the last client that came in, i tried my best to explain that, without sounding like i was bashing the last tech, that i noticed some breakage and lifting with the old product. i told her i'd be happy to repair and fill as much as needed but if they continued to breakdown in that area, we;d have no choice but to replace them because the products seemed not to be compatable. was that the right move?
how do i know if my filing is the cause? I'm in an area where I am the only nail tech in the city so i'm sure that I'll have to deal with this often. I'm very nervous because even though I'm well known in my main town, this town is fresh meat. I'm afraid if anything goes wrong that my reputation will be on the line and most of these clients are shop hoppers.

I think if it was me, I'd do a cut price removal with the full set just so that I had a fresh start. It's ok when you can see that the new growth area is clean, but if there is lifting or bits broken away, well my experience is that you can find pocket lifting to go with that and then you've spent all that time on the rebalance only to see zone 2 looking discoloured.:irked:
Geeg told us, can't remember if it was face to face or a tutorial:confused: but anyway she told us to work on the shape, de bulk and then worry about zone 3 last and as usual she is so right, if you tackle a rebalance that way it's a lot quicker service and you don't find yourself faffing about so much or chasing the line and it stops the tech from over filing.
I hope I've helped hun xx
