So, a lot of spray tanners mobile & in salon offer a full body scrub and spray tan.

Well how does that work, surely you have to wash the scrub off..And your not ment to have water on your body for quite a number of hours before a spray tan are you??

I don't personally offer the scrub service, but I do my own tan and scrub in the shower about half an hour before doing my tan and it always takes well hth xx

I just get clients to exfoliate themselves before the tan, but have never heard of the no water before tanning rule. A few of my neighbours shower just before coming over for their shower and have never had a ny problems xx

Normally people who offer these service use the exfoliant there supplier produces in that specific range. St Tropez for example have body polish which in the dvd they show by gently patting the residue off with damp cloths and gently patting dry with a towel before proceeding.

Water won't effect your body before the tan, its all the other products people use daily that you don't want being used before the tan, moisturisers, perfumes, oils, make-up + removers (unless they are removed correctly with oil free products etc) as these will effect the tan and development.

You don't want water near your body after your tan whilst developing apart from when you are washing the guide colour off.

In my training i was told not you shouldn't have have a shower too soon before your tan as it change's the PH of your skin and doesn't take....

Starting to doubt my training now!

I always advise this aswell, usually 2 hours beforehand, I've had clients just come out the shower when I get there and the tan doesn't take too well

Perhaps it is the products they use when showering that is the problem if not washed off properly. I can't see why water would affect the skin, please correct me if wrong though  xxx

It won't be the water thats the problem it will be the shower gel or scrub they are using that will cause problems as oil is what strips the tan - anyone using oil based shower gel will still have an oily residue on the skin and this might cause probs. thats why we ask clients not to moisturize before tan and not to use oily shower gels after the tan if poss. these oily shower gels are the ones that say extra moisture on the bottles etc. HTH Lisa

Jenx, Eden_beauty,

I know products effect it, but in my training i was told that client's shouldn't have a shower on the day or even just wash their hands as whereever water has been recently the tan won't take..I however tried it out and what a load of balls..it worked just fine! infact it looks great.

I was told 'water' yes water not any products!!! would change the PH of the skin, which of course it does..but then the tan wouldn't take!

I'm ashamed to say the trainer is on here and it's a very 'reputable' well known company! but obiding to geek rules, won't say unless asked!

Well..i can stop tellin clients to be dirty now!!

I've been looking in to a product called Beau Bronze. It's a spray tan but you exfoliate them with a special liquid. Then apply the tan then lock with a moisturiser. Obviously it would be more expensive. Anyone tried it?

xx

UTTER RUBBISH!! water is averagely only 6.5/7.0 ph in the uk :eek:
as long as your client is exfoliated and dry before you tan them it will be fine

your one of my friends on here i dont want everyone thinking we trained you lol !!:lol:
you will do well in this bizz your passionate enthusiastic and have a thirst for knowledge
some trainers try to blind you with science
you are basically spraying a sugar extract on to skin !! its not rocket science (allthough we had a failure recently) we gave her money back as we were not willing to give a cert out with our name on it :eek:
water when dried cannot change the PH value of skin !!

Water
I remember spraying 2 girls once and they rang me 5 mins later as it had started raining a little bit when they were on their way back to their car. The rain had spotted their hands so i told them to come back and i'd patch them up. By the time they got back to the salon it was absolutely bucketing down.
They walked in the salon and i was very professional..........i burst out laughing
The spray was running down their legs and arms and they looked a right state.
Anyway i have a shower at my salon so i got them to jump in the shower and i sprayed them again straight after-and it was perfect!
I also think a lot of companies want you to buy all their pre-tan and post tan products-obviously! I, personally wouldn't waste my money.
Whenever i have tested a solution, i deliberately don't exfoliate beforehand and i don't moisturise after. I want to see how a tan will perform in the worst conditions, as we all know that clients sometimes don't follow the advice given
My solution is still great when no exfoliating and no moisturising is done.
Obviously it will help the tan last longer if the advice is followed but if you have a good quality solution then you don't need to spend money on so-called proper tanning products ie...body polishers, body wash, moisturising balms etc....
I do hundreds of tans and i've never had a single complaint-i think that speaks for itself!

so true ange solution quality and Organic DHA extract make the difference between a good tan and a tango tan :lol:
not the pre tan prep products

haha no wasn't nouvatan that trained me.

I have plenty of clients who come to me straight from their shower... they won't have it any other way! Their tans are always fine. :)

I have, on occasion offered body exfoliation the day before a client has a tan; one client in particular who used to have weekly top ups.... she wanted a full body exfoliation once a month to help keep the 'build up' to a minimum. :green:

Personally I wouldn't offer any kind of skin treatment immediately before a spray tan but I have no worries about the client showering immediately beforehand.

did you go to the centre you was asking me about which do spray tan training?

Hi Emma,

I emailed them they said they'll contact me in Jan..havn't heard anything so far, i've started spraying anyway..only my family though!!! lol, cos i've had training with tantrick already..Well. So you have not had training, but you state that when you were trained you were told you could not be near water prior to being sprayed???
I know you say you sat in on it but maybe you miss heard the trainer! Anyway i always say to avoid a shower ect before hand due to products used. Buff wipes are great if the client has not exfolliated x

i was sat same distance away from her as my stepmum that's why she couldnt practice on me and tom because we'd had showers about 2 hours before....if it wasn't salongeek i wouldn't know the truth, lol
