Ok, so I can hear you all sighing and thinking "oh, not another newbie!" so I am really sorry, but I have been reading the forums for a few months on and off and I thought it was about time I joined up and posted.

I am 26 and currently studying for an NVQ Level 2 for manicures, pedicures, fibreglass/silks and nail art. I started in September and finish this course in July. I currently am doing this for 2 evenings a week, 3 hours per evening and we are currently doing clients, which I'm loving.

I really want to get into the nail profession and would love to become a nail tech. I hope to continue with my training and may start NVQ Level 3 in September to do acrylics and gels.

Basically, how did you all get started? Is it even possible for someone with my experience to start working in this area? Unfortunately I do not have any friends or clients outside of college that can advertise for me via word of mouth, so I think this could be a downside to everything.

Is there anything you can suggest to get me out there and doing what I adore. I'm fed up with being an administrator and doing a job I hate.

Any advice, tips etc are all welcome. Thanks all.

why not start by doing friends and family, you could offer it at a reduced price to begin with, to cover costs of your products, and a little for your time, it's a good way to practice, get your speed up and also build you confidence, once you feel you are happy witht he way things are turning out you could advertise and do evening and weekend appoinments, gumtree is a good place to advertise ( you would have to have your insurance to do this ) and see how things go from there?? hth x ruth

You could advertise in your local Parish Magazine or approach the W.I
Or give leaflets to Mums as they drop off at a school near you, suggesting a bit of "me time" for them

The Beverley Robinson School of Nails and Beauty I trained here with Beverley and she really is brilliant. She is so lovely too and doesnt just leave you to go it alone. She's always happy for you to call or text with any dillemmas. She truly is brilliant x
