hi there i have been in my salon for 2 and a half years although i just returned from maternity leave at the start of december. i was searching the jobcenter mostly just out of boredum and have been wanting a new job for a while, i came across a job that would be perfect for me great hours to fit my kids and more money so i phoned the salon and i am waiting on the boss getting back to me.

my problem is i feel sick like i am betraying my current boss and the idea of telling her that i am leaving makes me feel ill (thats if i get the job). i know we all move on in life with jobs but feel like i am a horrible person especially since i have been off work on maternity.in my current salon though i am getting messed about with hours like only really going in for hours that suit my boss which would be fine but i am paying for childcare for full days even thow boss only wants me half days or few hours but doesnt know what times she will need me and stuff and its hard when got young kids.

i know i have dragged on :)lol but how have you told bosses in the past that you leaving and has anyone ever done it not long after returning to work:hug:

just explain that you need stable hours as you have young kids to get care for!
simple, its just good sense. if she cant do that for you then obv you need to work somewhere that can
best of luck!
let us know how you get on xx

thanks i will let you know how get on i have already spoke to her in past bout hours. when i started there i only had my little girl so i was flexible but she still expects me to be like this. i just hate letting people down.

Best of luck to you, i hope the new job works out.

you gotta look after yourself in this day and age, no one will do it for you.. do whats best for you, not your current boss..

I used to feel this way too, but not any longer. As my mom explained to me, I owe them nothing but the hours I agreed to work. It is a fee for service - nothing else.

Guilt is such a wasted emotion - and as you have done nothing to harm anyone - it is not warranted in this case. I simply explained to my last employer that the position I was in was no longer meeting my needs and I had found a new position that did. I thanked him for the opportunity and left. No harm no foul! (I did give notice though).

Good luck getting the new job!

Put in in writing and then say I'm handing in my resignation as I've found a new job and give her the letter. Wait until you definitely have a new job first though! It can be scary the first time but don't worry you have to do what's best for you.

thanks everyone for you reply i do feel bit better now i think it just scary telling them incase they go mad plus i need to give four weeks notice and i am dreading it if she asks me to leave there and then especially as i need my wages. i have my interview on sat so hopefully i get the job. thanks everyone again xx:Love:

Even if she asks you to leave then and there when you hand in your notice (and I doubt that she'd do that anyway), I'm sure she would have to pay you for the four weeks if your contract says 4 weeks' notice on either side.
I'm sure things will be fine, but as someone else says, don't hand in your notice until you've definitely been offered the other job in writing.

just thought would update you on my interview:rolleyes: well i went in early and from the moment i went in i wanted to walk back out the salon was horrible and dirty and the staff were so unproffessional even the way they were dressed dripping in jewlerry and stuff . i waited on the boss and thought do the interview and get out lol the whole time i was looking at the door thinking just walk out lol. the boss asked one of the girls to do interview as she was running late before i sat down in the room i just said i think i am wasting both our time as hours wont suit and thing and prob no point doing the interview and i left. now that was a real eye opener.:Scared: thanks for all your help back to looking for a job now lol xx

all all that worrying for nothing! lol good luck with the job search, im a great believer in whats for you won't pass you. clare

Rather than looking for another job, wouldnt it be better to approach your current boss to explain what your difficulties are, to see if they can be resolved? Changing salons should be a last resort as you will have to begin again building a clientelle.

there is only myself and my boss that work there, and i work my hours round what my boss wants i have tried before to tell her that i at least stable hours but nothing gets done my shifts get changed at the last min. and she def wont give wage rise as we so quiet at the moment. i would like to stay there but i want to put my kids first. thanks for advise thow

Sweetheart all salons are quiet at the mo. Your next boss could just lay you off if things get worse. At least where you are you have employment rights, which you wouldn't have in a new salon.
