Just wondering .....

Now geekbay has gone....and you can't advertise in the forums or in blogs if you've got something to get rid of.....where do you lovely geeks dispose of anything you no longer need?

Dare i say the dreaded 'e' word?

Would you like to see a 'swap shop'/'for sale' forum or the return of geekbay? Is there a demand for this ?

Amb x

How about a social group ? I don't know if this would work but it is worth a thought maybe ?

surely peeps have things to get rid of.....

impulse buys......wrongly ordered product:wink2: no longer used brands....overstocks.....giving up etc etc.....?

Yeah, I have some products that have never been opened and are surplus to requirements.

I would imagine there's loads. I for one have got cupboards full of stuff I'll probably never use and I'm still a newbie

I suppose the problem that the site owners have is the matter of 'genuine' or 'not genuine', same as any other site that sells pre-owned stuff. BUT, they've got more ethics than the others so it has to be easier to just opt out? Let's face it, we all bang on about buying from the proper source on the threads and if we do buy from the dreaded e....y we keep it quietly to ourselves

If the big chiefs did find a way to do it that they were happy with though I'd probably start filling all the other cupboards in the house and my husband may divorce me

You are very right Amber, I closed my salon recently and sold the furniture on Ebay but what about excess stock? Bin it or sell it on Ebay?

We have zero tolerance to advertising on the site so can't sell it to professionals on here.....what other options do we have to sell to professionals, I haven't found any other than, I think it's The Guild which doesn't really have enough traffic to get it sold. There's always the bin, the e word, local free ads etc? Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Amb its easy babe............You just give it all to meeeeeeeeee lmaooooooooooo

The Guild have a classified section.

i miss geek bay, i had several good buying and selling experiences there.
but i do understand how a site like that can have repercussions on those that run it.

I have PMd the Mods to see if we could run something in a social group.

I've been told that as things stand at the moment, we can't do this but it is going to be discussed.

I checked this out the other day as I've got surplus stock too, but you have to be a Guild member which cost £25....:irked:

Hmm I wonder what the legal repercussions of running such a site are? I mean would it be feasible to set something up where you could post a classified advert for geeky stuff to sell, but the site was not responsible for the actual transaction of buying the stuff (that being the responsibility of the seller and buyer alone)? Something like the classified ads on Gumtree perhaps?

I found a really good place.
The bin.
Sad but true x

No way!

You could have at least tried putting it on Freecycle!

No way do I want some person who's not done a course/insurance etc to take it!!
It's the way I feel. I'd rather it was binned than in the wrong hands tbh x

Good point, I didn't think of that! It could (heaven forbid) end up in an NSS or worse...

Maybe if I have a few spare evenings, I'll design something???

I've got an idea <<<<<<<wildly jumps up with hand in air>>>>>>>> why not have a section where you state that you have things to sell but don't what they are, then whoever is interested, could pm to find out what the products are, thus not taking over the site.

One other thing, I've bought products from 2 geeks on here, and its all been great. Excellent pm correspondence and delivery etc.

Sorrrry Ruth hun (luvs yax)xxx. But I really would rather bin it than put it on fleabay. The recycling thing is good but how would you know you're not giving it to some person with nothing re qualifications etc?
If it was just an old chair etc. I certainly would do it. I know how it can feel to be skint but I cannot and WILL NOT have the feeling that I could help a person into this who has no idea what they are talking about.
As you may tell....I'm a bit peed on this atm!!!:)

Luvs ya too Judy xxxxx

Tis OK, I can see where you are coming from; I guess it would be similar to putting professional fireworks on Freecycle (that are dangerous if not in trained hands)... you wouldn't be guaranteed where they would end up - and I'm guessing untrained people could make a real mess if they had no idea what they were doing - then there's the health and safety concerns too, especially if the stuff included ethyl methacrylate monomer...
