Hi All,

I am interested in doing a course in hydrotherm massage and wondered;

How many therapists offer this treatment?
What do you think of it?
Is it popular?
Do you find it easier on your hands/wrists?

Sorry for all the questions
I did do a search but only 3 threads came up (1 of which was mine!)

A lady I used to work with offered hydrotherm & it was very popular with pregnant clients - that said the thing was forever leaking & needing patching up and the company weren't particularly helpful regarding that particular issue.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for that - interesting to hear that about the company, not very good customer care then!!:irked:

I am interested in this system as my hands are starting to hurt after 10 years of massaging and this claims to take the pressure off the therapists hands.

The thing I am not too keen on is to keep the water warm you have to keep the heat pad plugged in all the time if not you would have to re-fill it every day!

We had the hydrotherm plugged in all day, which eventually resulted in the plastic casing on the dial controller cracking, and then after the pad's seams were pretty much covered from one end to the other in puncture repair kits we chucked it out & never replaced it. That was a few years ago though, so the customer care & product longeivity may have improved since then.

If it's your hands that are hurting have you considered the no-hands method of massage or hot stones?

I am really interested in hot stones massage and that is the next course on my list to go on, just got to start looking around at course prices and kit prices!
I need to know how much to allow myself in total!
If there is any hot stone company/ course any1 can recommend that would be great! :)
The no-hands method sounds good, I have never seen this course offered in any academys/ collages, again does any1 know anywhere they can recommend for this please?

Hi Emma,
I do quite a lot of massage, so I did a hands-free massage course a few years ago, it gave me a routine that I can do with my forearms.

Last month I did a lomi lomi introductory course and it was a gentle form of massage using long flowing movements and again using your forearms.

Last week I did a deep tissue/trigger point massage course and was amazed by it! You use your elbow to deliver the pressure and it is so easy!!! I did a 45 minute routine and didn't feel that I had actually put any pressure on the model, but her yowling and yelping proved that I was!!!

I am going to write an advanced massage course this year which will include hands-free and deep tissue techniques.

I would highly recommend looking into those and hot stone massage too, all these techniques save your hands.

The tutor that I did my deep tissue also teaches hot stones and how to incorporate the hot stones into deep tissue. she is based in Lincoln.
