Hi guys
As some of you know I started my Indian head massage today.

I always have a headache,it's quite normal for me to wake up with one and go to bed with one.

I have had lots of indian head massages in the past and find it really helps.
My shoulders and neck are constantly tense and after having a treatment today I felt great. However in the past hour I am in soooo much pain and can hardly move my head as it is hurting my neck.

Could this be that the muscles have been over worked? The muscles are rock solid!

What can i do to get rid of this pain?

Any help would be great right now
Thanks

I would apply a warm hot water bottle and you may find you are fine in the morning. Also drink lot of water to flush out any lactic acid.

Thank you huni! The boyfriend has made me two hot water bottles and have a big pint of water lol (hugs)

So, is that the normal reaction from you or anyone having an IHM, or have you just got a bad shoulder pain, sorry to sound dumb, but I've never had an IHM. I've been thinking of having one for the relaxing experience - but that does not sound very relaxing!
I'm sorry, I'm not actually helping with your question! xxx

Oh dont let it put you off. I think and IHM is more relaxing than a full body massage.
I always have them and have never had this before. I think it's where people have practiced on me all day and my muscles have been over worked, giving me muscle fatigue.

Ok, well I hope you feel better real soon - try some ibuprofen - that helps inflammatory muscular problems.

Thank you xxx

I had that when I trained to do my IHM course and I think it is what you said. You would not normally be practiced on and practice on other so much it just is not normal. I suffer from Migraines and take medication for them so I do sympthise with the headaches co-codamol make me sleepy but nurofen work well just take them with milk or something in you stomach as they can irritate if taken on a regular basis.

I agree with what Weezie said but I also used those self heating pads from the chemist during the day to release the muscles and any tension to allow you to return to normal movement as if you don't you will only create more postural problems. Also cheek your posture and the height of the chair your client is sitting on is correct when working, I know that is not always easy when its not your equipment. The only other thing I would say is to try to drink a lot of water as that is standard advice after any massage to help eliminate toxins which can cause headaches. Good luck with your course, HTH xx

I have been giving clients IHM for many years now and you shouldn't be experiencing neck pain at all. it may be worth talking to your tutor about it as the person working on you may have been doing something wrong. You may experience a slight headache or stiffness, but no pain, even if you are working on each other all day. As for headaches, I used to have permanent headaches until I went and had Bowen Technique treatment. It was amazing, I felt lousy for two days, I cried all day on the third and my headaches went on the forth. I had two follow up treatments and the headaches have never returned (apart from the odd self induced one). Good luck with the course.

That sounds like me. I started having migraines when I was 18 years old.
Nothing I did or took would help with my horrible headaches, and doctors couldnt help me either.
A few years ago a doctor in Germany suggested I try Botox. He injects it into the tensed muscles. They either tense up because of the headache, or the headache starts because the muscles are tense. Either way if you paralyze the muscle with Botox they cant contract and get too tight. In my case that means: 3 months no pain!!
So now I get my Botox fix 4 times a year. I highly recommend it!
