Hi everyone..
did a thread the other day saying i was having my first nail extensions done in years.. spent *so* much time trying to find somewhere good to do my nails.. Went covent garden to this beauty salon .. they said all the right things.. didn't use drills.. don't use MMA.. make the nails look natural.. etc... etc..

She used white tips.. an put clear-ish acrylic on which she mixed with a liquid and a powder... I have a small nail bed, and this white tip took up more than half of my nail... so the end result was a tiny bit of pink and HUGE white tip it looks disgusting..so disgusting and fake and unnatural looking that i painted over them with red polish!!! An after payin nearly 50 for them.. i was more than annoyed.

Just want to find a GOOD nail technician who uses the correct procedures AND who can do a lovely natural lookin french set who i can go to every 2 weeks ... is it so hard????!!!!

There are a few London based techs on here Nailsinlondon1 springs to mind, maybe you could contact her for an appointment, I think she's based in the City.

So sorry you feel this way  but when the first couple of tips were put on why did you not stop it there? why let the tech carry on if you dont like what you see. As a tech I would prefer the client to be giving me feed back and then I know how to please her rather than lose her. This nail tech you went to is now not going to see you again or have the chance to and prob thinks you liked the nails.
Would you let a hair dresser do something that you dont like to your hair?

I dont realy know much about nails just thought the end result would be okay... once the tips and acrylic were on.. i realised there were no more finishing touches and she actually thinks it looks good to have white tips 3/4 the size of the nail. She just wasn't good.. even the acrylic is uneven. I did find a really good nail lady.. but she is always so busy.. so re scheduling for infils in a complete nightmare.. Love havin nails.. just hate wasting money.. I know what you mean about telling the nail tech what you like/don't like.. I would have done that if i thought the end result would be hideous.. Its just, when they were done, I didnt have the guts 2!

I agree with Debbie, however its done now.

Why don't you go back and calmly explain how you feel about the nails...if they want your custom i am sure they will advise, help.

Failing that its biting the bullet I'm afraid...dont give up as there are lots of good nail techs out there who do know what natural means...and if you see any white tips come out of a box...stop them !

Oh if i see any white tips.. thats the stopping point right there!! I know , if I was a nail tech id want repeat custom.. and im sure theres loads of good ones out there.. just need to find one!

Hi

Go to ruth (nailsinlondon1) i think she has some picci's in her gallery, she does gorgeous nails and will look after you.

Book in with your nice nail lady and keep the appointments...have yourself booked in for the next 12 months and ask her to let you know when you are down to your last 4 appointments so you can stock up again.....where you just ringing when you wanted them done or had you got appointments booked in...?

It's all very well to say you should have stopped her, but when you go to a professional and tell them what you want, you kind of expect them to just get on with the job and deliver the goods. I think a lot of people wouldn't have said anything either . . . as nail techs we know that once those white tips are on there's no room for changing pink and white proportions but the general public does not always realise what is going on and just places their trust in the nail tech.

I would probably have done the same as you, to be honest, and just voted with my feet and not gone there again (and think how many people you will tell/show).

It's a shame you've lost out here. If you go back, I have a feeling they simply will not know how to correct it, if they knew that then they would have done a better job to start with, extending your short nail bed with a cover pink and placing the white where it would look best.

I'd put this one down to experience and just make sure you discuss what the next nail tech is going to do with your nails before she does it!

Awww Im sorry you have had a bad experience,
I agree with what some of the lady's have said on here,
Go back to the salon and explain, if they are a good salon, they WILL offer to rectify the problem,

The good thing is, you know this is not the way your nails are supposed to look,
And you have come to the right place to help find you a nail tech you are happy with hun,

Too many people put up with nails they are not happy with because they are either afraid to say anything, or know no different,

I do use white tips myself, but only on a client they are suited on,
In my oppinion they do have a place, but not in this case,

I would explain to any other technician you do not want white tips as they are not suited to your nail beds,
Either a custom blend...or natural tips, overlayed with a pink and white, would suit much more.
The natural tip will allow for a little more extention of the nail plate,
And a custom blend will masque the nail plate entirely to give an illusion of a much longer sleeker looking nail .

HTH hun
Good luck xxxx

I should have.. but its too late now.. yep that was exactly it... I just let her get on with it thinking that they would look nice in the end.. I didnt know the white tip would stay that big. Had gel nails before she used a clear tip with layers of gel which were put under a UV lamp , I thought they looked so natural, french was painted on. What's the type of gel nails are they where the french is NOT painted on and doesnt chip???

Oh hun I do feel for you:hug: It is hard to complain even in a cool calm, sophisticated fashion, but you paid heaps and you earned that money to spend on yourself and now its gone. As others on here have said go back and say you are not happy with them, take a mate to help you. My motto is if you dont ask you wont get. Do ask - even if all she offers is to soak them off and that should be free imo. Good luck. Chin up!

Personally id go back and see if you can have a chat.

You need to ascertain whether they use a pink and a white to create the nail - whether it's gel or acrylic (liquid & powder). This will stay on and not chip, and will grow out gradually and can be rebalanced to make the French effect everlasting.

If they are planning on using one colour gel or acrylic (clear, pink or natural) and you have asked for a French, then they will be painting the white on afterwards. hth x

Yep that does help, im lost on a bit of the terminology.. Just need to know what to ask for.. I dont want the french to have to be painted and want what you said about the french effect everlasting.. xxxx

have a look in the gallery on here...there is a search option and if you type in french it will bring up all the french look nails....i am sure no-one would mind if you wanted to print one off to take with you and say...I want them like this !!

Trying not to confuse you here so apologies if I do. With gel there is a white paint on gel which sets solid under the uv lamp, which will be everlasting. (until your next rebalance) x

Please don't be dishearted by this one experience

There are many good nail techs out there and once you have found one you'll be glad you did
