Hi guys, I'm a newbie and I love this site. I qualified last July but am still struggling with lifting, I know its zone 3 but i just can't seem to get it right.
I thought about buying an e.file but I think I know that isn't the answer, has anybody any advise or tips. I'm also using Star nails but wondering if creative would be better?

i would say it may be in your prep work hun you need to make sure that this is done really well, or it could be your ratio are you using liquid and powder or gel?

You need to go back to your trainer and go through your problems with her Hun. It is what she is there for.

If you aren't happy doing that, is there anyone who knows more about nails near to you, who can watch you do your prep which would maybe then highlight possible problems.

I say this because we all can get a little relaxed about certain techniques. I found i did the same. I felt i was doing okay and had forgotten a few very minor things when doing prep. My techie friend watched me do some prep on her and saw a few very small things i wasn't doing. Sometimes it can be so small, you may have forgotten to do it, or think its too small to worry about, but it can be the difference between an ok set of nails, to a great set of nails.

Good luck hun.

Hi Kirsty Im using l&p

Welcome to the nail industry ,it will make or people will make you feel crap sometimes,if youve got a problem you need to find out why,are you removing all the cuticle, are you working too far up to the cuticle.

Dont invest on a e file for the natural nail,it will cause trauma to the natural nail....not unless of cors you plan to go and work in one of these nss places:lol:.No seriously ,that is not your answer to your problem.xx

If your using l&p your ratio could be out,or you could be working too thick at the cuticle area.

I'm having the same problem, I know i'm definately prepping well enough, I use creatives cuticle remover and i spray and wipe nail prep to dehydrate about 3 times before primer & acrylic. So i'm starting to think maybe i'm working too wet. It's driving me nuts and it makes me feel like a rubbish too!

Glad I'm not the only one wandawump, another thing is I use a pen primer, is this any less affective than say a extra strength primer?

I trained originally with Star Nails and used to use the primer pens. I did find, after a while that it wouldn't be effective. The reason being, every time you wipe it around the nail, the nib could pick up a little of your sanitiser you used previously, then it is on the nib. I find brush on primer better as you can wipe the brush on a tissue after use, to stop contaminating it with other things.

Hope this makes sense?

no, it still uses the same chemical, its just a different applicator.

Go and search the tutorial section on this site,
it could be that you are not pressing the product to the nail sufficiently hth

i think thats a good point.

Product touching the skin will cause lifting as will product not blended in flush to the natural nail, as in you have a 'step'.... sidewalls tend to be the major culprits ....so if your prep is spot on and these things aren't, you are still likely to experience lifting.

This is so true Cathie, which is why it sometimes is better to get some one experienced to watch how you prep and apply product. Explaining what you do isn't enough as it can sound fine, but it may be your application that isn't quite spot on.

Forgive me, but I don't think that the pressing hard or squishing product into the nail really makes that much of a difference to the bond that product makes with the nail plate, primerless or primed....pressing eliminates air....it's all about prep, application, mix ratio and blending IME!

Lifting is such a pain I'm glad I'm not the only one trying to solve this problem ,you are not alone.
I had redone 4 nails on my sister in law on Friday i thought it was because i had touched the sidewall ,i tried so hard prepped really well applied product leaving a gap at sidewall i'm doing them again on Sunday good job shes patient !

I'll give you a different slant on this one hun, though along similar lines!

I had a problem with lifting, I was so sure I was really careful about prep, and I had further training where the trainer didn't see a problem with my prep, but I still got the lifting!

A few months ago, I had some more training, with my local lovely EzFlow trainer. She asked me to try her EzFlow Pro Pusher, instead of my trusty cuticle pusher that I got with my original training (that was really a cheap one). I'd already used the old one, but with the Pro Pusher, it was amazing how much more I got off the nail!

I bought a Pro Pusher there and then, and I have virtually no lifting now! It doesn't take any longer, it's just one helluva better tool.

So I'd say check that your tools are good quality, and up to the job! I think maybe mine had got a bit blunt with use. Good luck, hope you get it sorted:hug:

Thanks for your reply, i bought a pro pusher when i did my conversion day i was amazed at what i got off the nail.
I have only done a few people since my conversion day two have had lifting the others are ok so far its actually two weeks tomorrow so i will be checking them all next week.

Ive just invested into one too,had my first nail bitter recently so thought this was a good opportunity and a must to get one. They are great little instruments.

Hi sarah and everybody else, thanks for all the advise. I'm desperate to get this right and I think the tutorials on the site are great and I'll get another tech to watch in.
