Hiya geeks I havent a clue about laser hair removal. Iv laser hair removal now done twice and I know i wont starts seeing results untill iv had a few treatments but its not that im worried about! when I went for the first treatment I had a consulation and a patch test which was fine. Then on the second time I had the full area! Oh my got it hurt I felt like someone was put fire on my face and the same next time i went. Now I really dont want to go back :(.

I was watching on telly the other day when they were showing differents times of hair removal such as waxing threading ect.... Then they put laser hair removal on, and I noticed that they put a thick gel on the clients face before the laser and the client says its was pain free. But when I go for mine they dont do anything they just give me goggles and away they go. Is this right? like I say I havent a clue abouts whats right or wrong with this treatment. I Have to say its really got me down as I have got problems with facial hair as i have POS and I thought laser hair removal would be a life saver. But to be honest im scared of going back :Scared:

Hope that makes sense xxxx

HI - I'm no expert but I've had both laser and IPL and both have used a gel with treatment. My understanding was that this needed to be used to better conduct the laser/light into the hair folicle and quite possibly also to make treatment more comfortable.

100% you need a IPL or laser gel applied to the area, this prevents the skin getting too hot and potentially burning the skin.also it acts a conductor IPL/laser will not be pain free you will feel a second of heat, some will be more painful then other areas. xxx

They didn't put anything there cant remember even if they cleaned the area before. I was expecting it to hurt a little nothing like that. Im never going back there again but will give it a go somewhere else. Thanks ladies xxxx

Yes best to avoid! Did you buy a course ? I would definitely write to the salon, even if you don't go back they can hopefully review the therapist. Because no gel can cause some serious burns or scarring. Xxxxxxx

We offer IPL in our salon and to defiantly need gel applied first but i not 100% on laser iv had laser treatment with skin before we started offering IPl & no gel was applied these are a big company so I'm sure they where doing things correctly. I would ask your laser operator if your worrier they should have an answer for you xxx

Hi.

I am using both, laser and two different IPL machines and not all IPL do have to use a gel. I have one that has to and the other doesn't.

what type of laser was it? i have worked with both laser and ipl, we ONLY put gel on when we used the ipl machine our actual laser machine did not require gel however it did have a cooling device built in (DCD) which made it a little easier on clients as we could adjust this to suit the clients comfort maybe this is the machine your clinic uses. (i found the laser got better results compared to the ipl)
also you said you had PCOS do you find the hair alot more thicker on the area you are having treated? as this could be why it feels slightly nippy, i have treated alot of clients with PCOS and have found the results amazing!!! however it can take a few more extra treatments than a non PCOS client depending on the hair growth and maybe a few maintenance treatments after but im sure you have heard all this at the consult, but stick with it don't be disheartened it is worth it!!! maybe on your next treatment discuss with your specialist about something that could help with the discomfort like a cool pack being applied after every few shots works a treat hope this helps :) :)

When I did my training at uni last year we used iced rollers to pre and post cool the skin. I would definitely ask them for something. Hope it all goes well x

Ive got different handles with my machine and for very fine sparse hairs, we dont use gel for-after a course of 6-8 depending on client. Also it also depends on the machines, i have one for skin rejuvenation, acne, coarser hairs, etc xoxo

i forgot to mention the sensation that you feel is not always a bad thing, if you're feeling a ping its good or a sharp pinch, sometimes people decribe the feeling as a hairbrush against the skin. all it means is that its killed it at the root, but the pain should subsidise within seconds. It may be incorrect setting, either way in your patch test, this should have been identified, if you want it lower i highly suggest goin back to the therpaist in qestion with your concerns. xoxo

I got laser hair removal at a clinic in London - being the person I am I was very scarred and nervous. However as soon as I entered I felt safe and reassured by the atmosphere and staff that worked there. I had it done on my legs and the device was fitted with a cooling system so It didn't really hurt too much - Id be lying if I said I felt no pain but it was nowhere as bad as waxing. Am thinking about getting it again on my underarms but will have to save up a little first as it can be quite expensive.

I used to work for a massive laser company with clinics throughout the uk. We always applied aloe vera gel to the area and attached a cool air machine to the laser to keep the skin cool. But back in the day we never used to apply gel or the cool air. we used to use ice packs. It depends on the compaby and their protocols. X

Ive had IPL done for years for my mild but annoying thread veins(only do it once a year or so) at a very big and reputable clinic in London and I can say that it hurts like hell!!! it is literally like my face is burning, it really hurts!!! so I dont think that will change wherever you go unfortunately. And yes, with this machine they use gel but heard that is not the case with all the machines.
