A few of you may of noticed the threads i have been posting asking about Beauty Therapy.

I have decided to enrol back to college to start NVQ LEVEL 2 in Beauty Therapy. This is for a year and then hopefully if i pass i am hoping to train up to LEVEL 3.

I decided life is to short and i know this is what i am passionate about so why end up in a job i hate when i can train now and in a few years down the line i will be a trained beauty therapist!

I just hope i am doing the right thing and just wondered if people could post there stories of how they made it and have i done the right thing?

I'm not doing a 'I've made it' story coz quite honestly I've got so far to go personally but getting qualified is the best thing ever and you really do have to love what you do! Congrats in deciding!

If you are passionate about doing a Beauty Therapy course, and its what you want to do, what makes you ask are you doing the right thing? You clearly have doubts?
Only you can really answer that question, as only you know you and your situation, it sounds like you are following your dreams, which is great and I cant see any wrong in that!
What do you mean by asking people to post their stories on how they made it? Made what? How does one know when they have made it? Whatever "it" is?
Love Emma x:hug:x

i think 'made it' for me would be a feeling that I've finally reached my personal target which would be different for different people. That after years of training, cost and time and hard graft and promoting that you are working the job you really want to, with regulars and you are earning what you want to earn, you don't have to work the office job you hate etc? That you 'made it' work for you?

x

I dont have doubts i just like to know how other people did it. Some people on here have done short courses, others have trained at college etc.

Also when i say "made it" i suppose i kind of mean achieved what they wanted and wake up every morning loving what they do!

It is just nice sometimes to find out from other people what they did and mention any tips or advice

Ok, well I did a 3 year course at collage.
I do love what I do, its all I have ever done and all I have ever wanted to do, I still personally have more to achieve, so I guess I havent really "made it" yet!

Well done for making the decision. I left a stressful (but quite lucrative) office job in the clothing industry when I was 23 to go back to college and complete my NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Beauty Therapy. The course was 2 years full time - although it was only mornings till 1pm and I managed to get a part-time job in the afternoons so I wasn't totally skint. I also did a part-time Indian Head Massage course and Reflexology course so that when I left college I had a few qualifications on my CV to hopefully secure a job.

It was a hard slog going back into education but it was worth it and I can honestly say that every day since I have loved what I do as a therapist and now as a salon owner.

After working in a salon for 3 1/2 years I went travelling and came back and made the decision to go self-employed. i rented a room above a hairdressers for 18 months which was quite tough at times trying to build up a business from scratch. I met my business partner there and we found premises and opened our Hair and Beauty salon in Feb 2008. And just last week I signed the contract to take over the business. I am now the very proud sole owner of a successful salon. I've also taken the decision to step back from the therapy side and concentrate more on running the business. I still have a passion for the industry, but now I can spend time improving my salon, helping train up my therapists, and looking into all the new treatments I may be able to introduce. And maybe having a few treatments myself!!

My new part-time therapist is in her late 30's and she has just completed a CIBTAC Aesthetician course, she came from a sales position at a newspaper. She is so enthusiastic and says retraining was the best thing she has ever done.

If anyone ever says to me they are interested in becoming a therapist I am always very enthusiastic and encouraging. It's a brilliant job, every day is different. I have been very lucky to have been able to do this job. And ten years after making the decision to re-train as a therapist I have no regrets, just lots of ambitions still to achieve :D

Sorry if this post is a bit long but I hope it helps reassure you

don't want to blow my own trumpet but... i was always considered the brightest of a highly academic family who were :Look_righdevastated:Look_left when i told them that i wanted to be a "mere" beauty therapist (in fairness, i was a troublesome teen!:o)... but 6 years later, they see how happy and blessed i am... i may not be earning the big bucks but i go home at night and i feel satisfied that i've made someone feel happy... and i doubt any bankers bonus can give you the high that you get when you get a text from a bride thanking you for her beautiful nails...

hollie, you have made the right choice - and for all the right reasons! xxx
