But, my practice is far from perfect!! I only did my first half of creative training last week, but when i compare my practice nails from my trainer to the pictures uploaded in the critique section here (from newbies), they look fantastic compared to mine!!!!
My product just seems too thick n my smile lines are terrible. I read Gigi's book every night (which is soo helpful) and my trainer is great, but i just feel a little disheartened tonight.
Soz for the moan, i know im very new, and at the beginning of a long road to perfection but thought id be better than i am, just wondered if any1 else went thru this at the beginning?

Don't panic!! We all went through this at first:green:

As you say you've only done half your training! When you have completed your course things will begin to 'click'. Your educator will help you see what needs improving. THEN you can start your perfect practice

Good luck and let us know how you get on:hug:

Please dont be disheartened...Im sure almost everyone on here has felt like that at one point or another. I am nowhere near as good as some of the techs on here but I do know if we stop striving & learning then thats when we fall by the wayside. I can only keep trying to improve MY nails, MY time, and improve on them. There is no point comparing myself to someone else all the time or I will always be disappointed. It is ok to strive for better things but one day it will just 'click' and there ll be no stopping you!! You sound really enthusiastic and passionate so thats half the battle! Good luck xx

Pretty much most of us go through this,
really don't worry yourself, you will have good days and bad days while learning,
i was doing nails almost everyday for 8 months before i was actually happy with a set,
i did my foundation then practised like mad for months until i knew i couldn't improve any more without some help,
then i took a skill builders course and never looked back and my nails got better and better with each set,
you will get there and it probably wont take you as long as it did me, you just have to be stubborn and keep at it but if it is getting to you go put the kettle on and have a cuppa and 30 mins to your self then go back to the nail trainer,

i bet we will all be telling you how great your nails are soon enough in the critique section

even the great nail techs that have been doing it for years have their off days xxx

and it's practically impossible to do a nice looking nail on that ugly trainer hand

This is oooooo soooooooo true

Cannot agree more with what has already been said. Those nail trainers sure have ugly fingers!

What I found helpful was to use the nail trainer for a while and then just use tips to practice my smile lines on. Also, I used my hubby, bless him. In fact use anyone that is willing to be a guinea pig. Remember what we might think isn't all that good, someone who doesn't have their nails done will love them.

Don't despair when you think it's all going wrong, have a break then go back to it as I think Louise said.

Hiya

First of all `s for you!!! and please don't get downhearted!! Up until the last few sessions in my training I was seriously RUBBISH at EVERYTHING!! timing, fitting tips and or sculpting, applying the product  filing and finishing it was all just me winging it and hoping for the best! Then I stopped putting pressure on myself, asked for a little more help and most importantly started to recognise WHAT I was doing wrong and HOW to fix it - for everything thats going wrong there is always a way to fix it and you have to realise that your sets WONT be perfect or why would we need to spend ££££ on training? And you are TRAINING so now is the time to enjoy things and try not to worry because i promise it will come!!! Everything will click into place and then you can start to perfect the way you work and I bet you are alot better than you think  Lets face it nobody puts their crappiest (sorry if thats not a word) set of nails in the critique section do they?? so comparing to that just is not realistic at all hun. Remember the most important thing is to utilize your trainer to the max - they are there for you.

Good luck xxxx

I know exactly how you feel! I've finished training with gel, and am now learning about acrylic. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever be ready. We just have to keep on training and keep on learning. We will get there in the end I'm sure! Well that's what I keep telling myself anyway :)

Hi, I think we've all 'been there, done that'. Have you checked out the videos at www.cnd.com? It wasn't until I watched the smile line and custom blend video (like a million times) that I realized I was working WAY too dry. I still watch them. Roxanne and Tiffany make it look SO easy.

Best of luck to you! :)

Who long does the feeling last?
I've been doing nails since '05 part time/casual and I still have those moments. But I also have moments of, "I enjoy what I do & I'm good at it"
