I want to cry, Ombré gone bad

platinum blonde wants an ombré I made a silly choice of using Wella 8/71 for the root, it's super red. I'm not sure what to do I'm struggling with Putting it a straight ash at the root but then it will be darker. I'm so bummed. It looks like an 8 ro
 
8/71 should not be red. Especially or blonde hair it should be a nice ashy 7-8.

What were the exact steps you took? Formulas, timings, everything.

Did you check for metallic salts?
 
8/71 should have gone nice i agree with Cams I think a metallic salts must have been present

this is what it should have turned out, this is an 8/71 I did today over platinum blonde... I should add this is not her natural hair, it's a hair integration system/wig type.. so the hair was already processed.. But this was the result I expected... I also added 6/0 roots that's why it's a little darker on top
 
Cams is right metallic salts need to be checked for.. It should not have gone red!!
