Hey, im new to this.... I bought an ibd gel nails kit, i got a dvd and book with it to tell me how to do the nails.
Although it doesnt tell me everything.
Can anyone help me, how to i do maintenance on a gel nail with extension, when it starts growing up do i have to remove the whole nail to replace the tip?
Im excited to get started because iv been interested in nails for so long but so many questions i have!! I would appreciate if some one could get back to me. Thanks

Nicola

Have you had training to use the products ?

I cannot tell from your profile what nail training you have had, if you could fill this in more, we will know how to help you more :)

The fact that you have somehow obtained a professional kit and have no training will not endear you to all the dedicated professionals here on the site who have paid for training and 'done their time' to learn their skills.

This site is for professionals or newly trained would be professionals. We don't give courses on line as that would be irresponsible, wouldn't it?; as irresponsible as anyone who would try to work with professional products with no training or insurance.

Our advise would be to seek training from IBD and learn how to do nails properly and safely and beautifully.

I did not say i had no insurance, and that doesnt really have anything to do with my comment. I simply got the kit to try out and to try out on my mums nails. I have had previous training in other products, which where just overlays.
I wanted to get the kit for some practice as the price of courses are ridiculous and i wanted to try them out first to make sure i would enjoy doing them, instead of wasting money! I just want some tips!

Sorry, but your reasoning is all wrong.

Firstly .. training costs are not 'ridiculous'. Only to those who do not value it and think they can go it alone.

Secondly .. How can you try out or practice with something that you have no idea how to use and expect to know whether it is a good product or not? This is just silly.

Thirdly .. the biggest waste of your money is not by spending it on good education but by doing exactly what you are doing. It's so obvious I can't imagine how you can't see it.

And Lastly .. Insurance has allot to do with all your comments as without training you can't get insured.

I hope this does not come across as rude or offensive to you, it's not ment to be.
Can you tell us what previous training you have had in the nail industry?
I'm finding it hard to understand why the previous training you say you've had did not cover any maintenance.

Just to add the prices of courses may seem expensive on the surface but the wealth of knowladge you receive is invaluble. ( most companies do some pretty good deals as well)

Just an idea, if you want to see if you enjoy doing nails before furthering your career, IMO a college evening class is a good way to start, it will give you the basics and find out if you've cought 'the nail bug'

Hi,

I have been using IBD gel for over 7 years....IBD gel is a repitable brand, and if trainned properly, you can produce beautiful nails!

I do agree with the other geeks, and think that you MUST do trainning, to fully understand how the product works, and build up necessary skills and knowledge.

Your profile does not mention what course you have taken or what education you have recieved. A course that just teaches you to do overlays, and nothing else? I find this very strange and some what disturbing?

Also, the enitial cost of doing a nail course may shock you, but at the end of the day, it is an investment that will pay itself off in time!

If you have the proper training and with practice, produce beautiful nails, then you will surely make your money back and have made your future clients very happy! A big smile on a clients face at the end of the day is payment in itself!

Gel nails are a beautiful thing when done by a trained professional.
When atempeted by a untrained person it can be a very dangerous and harming experience.
Only by obtaining training you will fully understand health and safety issues around the proper application of enhancements, to create beautiful and safe nails.

There is more to gel nails than just slapping gel on and putting under a lamp.
Its something you have to know about and something you need training in, you would try to fix computers if you wasn't a specialist would you?

Like others have said for someone who isn't trained to use these products can cause allot of harm to both you and the person you are doing the nails on, there could be an allergic reaction and you wouldn't know how to handle it.

If you really want to do nails i do suggest some good training so not only will you be able to do nails on your family you will be able to work on the public (with insurance)
If nails is what you want to do, you would pay for training, if not then don't do nails at all because you can cause serious harm.
