Hi geeks,

I just had my shellac delivered last night, had a play and did mine with Red Baroness, gorgeous! One of the women in my job saw mine and said she would love it. She used to wear enhancements all the time, not ones from me she went to somebody who used tip and dip because that’s what she loves. She has been enhancement free for about 3 months now as she had Onycholysis on two of her fingers. I gave her solar oil at the time and she has been using it all the time. Things are much better now on both nails and its just slightly there on the corner of one nail. When I did my course I remember them saying that with oncholyitis it was best to cut the nail short to relieve the pressure on the nail and that you could paint the nail a dark colour polish to hide it but that you should take the polish off every so often to check things. I was wondering as Shellac is so thin and easy to remove could this be used on a nail with slight Onycholysis or could this damage the nail further? She's really love to have it done? or should i tell her to wait until its gone altogether before i do them. I havent said anything at all to her yet so i wont disappoint her if i cant.

Thanks, sorry it a long one.:o

As long as she keeps the nails short I dont think that there would be a problem, shellac should be removed after 2 weeks so you would be able to see if it has got any worse.
With on onycholosis it is advisable to keep nails to a short length to avoid more trauma that will weaken the already weak bond that is there until it has grown out completly, maybe if you are worried about it advise her to have a sheer colour to start so that you can keep an eye on it.
Shellac is thin so wont be as heavy on the nn iykwim.
It is no different to applying a normal polish.

Great, I had been thinking because its like a polish it would, was just worried in case there was something i was missing, she'll be thrilled. but yes she knows she has to keep them short, to be honest they are so short and thin now that it wont be a problem for a while but i think the shellac will help with the growth in that if its painted she wont keep at them!!!! Thanks for coming back to me, i know people are a bit fed up of shellac posts!

Wearing Shellac does not damage the nail plate in any way whatsoever and
will be perfectly safe to use on anyone with Onycholysis (even more severe onycholysis than you describe).

Why would you or anyone think that Shellac could harm the nail?? There is no PREP involved or buffing of the natural nail before applying Shellac and no buffing to remove the product so how could it possibly cause harm?? It isnail techs that cause harm, not products.

Thats their problem ... they don't have to read Shellac posts do they?

If anyone has questions re Shellac then they have a perfect right to ask them ... that is what this forum is for and everyone can learn form the questions people ask.

No one need apologize for asking anything re Shellac which is the most exciting thing in nails since Minx .... I haven't seen anything else from anyone else that has got nail technicians going like Shellac or even Dashing Diva French Wraps Plus!! I don't see anyone else talking about any other products really.

Thats very true i suppose they dont have to, its usually in the title! lol i'll keep going so!:D Thats just it, it is so exciting, the first thing i did this morning after shellacing them last night i was take my hands out from under the covers to admire them!! lol

Thanks very much for coming back to me, I couldnt see how it would harm the nail as such i know polish is ok but as this technically isnt a polish I thought i could be missing something as i'm so new to this world of nails! I love it though! She's going to be thrilled to have something back on her nails again! I'll make sure she has it removed in the proper two week frame so i can keep an eye on it anyway.

I know it's just such an amazing product, I had a client who was shellaced today and when she was finished and ready to pay she said just take the money from my purse and I actually picked up her purse to take the money before I remembered that we no longer had to do this and she could actully get it herself, lol! Just removed my shellac tonight after 10 days (not that I had to just felt like a change, lol) and it REALLY does come off in 10 mins....REALLY!!!! Hmmm, which colour to go for now, choices choices, :D

I didn't think we could soak a nail if it had Onycholysis? Or is it ok to soak with it only having a 10 minute soaking time?
