Hi all,
Ive just joined this morning as im so confused and need some recommendations. Hope someone can help lol.
Ive been getting my gel overlays done for a few years, ive tried acrylics and hate them so now i stick to the gels. Bio Sculpture seems to be the best (so im told) but no matter which salon I go to they never put the white gel on my smile line the way I like it. I would love a deep smile line but they never seem to do it! Maybe you cant with gel? I dunno lol
Soooooooo.... ive been looking into different courses but dont have the time at the moment to take time off work. I was thinking of buying a starter kit or something like that and practicing on myself and anyone who wont mind me messing about with their nails.
I was wondering which kit would be best to get me started. Thanks for reading xxx

Welcome to the site :)

Please don't attempt to do your own, and particularly nobody else's nails, without any training. It is not as easy as it looks and you can do a lot of damage to your own natural nails.

There are many different good quality gels but unless they are being used by a good technician they will not be better or worse than any other make.

Do you know what make you have on your nails ? have you asked technicians about your smile line ?

I use Brisa gel and I can make the smiles as deep as I want to

yeah what Del said.. what you will find is that this site is for proffesionals.. so we cant and wont advise you to practise or play without training.. we will however support and guide you in your decision should you decide to train and work hard like we all have to get where we are now.
You will never get anywhere in this business without training and determination imo.. so have a look at some of the training articles on here and think about what suits you.. goodluck.

Hi Vicki and welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about the problems you have been experiencing.

Without meaning to sound pompous, as this is a professional forum i'm afraid that you will probably find that no tech on here will recommend a product line for you to 'DIY' as there is alot more to nail enhancements that just putting them on. You need to know about the anatomy of the nail, contra indications, contra actions, nail diseases and also you need to have knowledge of the products that you are working with as it isn't as easy as it looks!! You could end up with a shedful of problems without the training you need.
If you are looking for recommendations regarding training, then you'll be inundated with replys, but please don't be offended that no -one provides you with the information that you are looking for.
xx

Hi Vicky, without a doubt I think all the geeks here will recommend that you don't buy a starter kit and mess about with someones nails.

Do you want to just be able to do your own nails or do you want to become a nail technician? Whichever your answer is, you need to be properly trained. Gels and the relevant nail tools can create havoc in untrained hands.

I wonder why your tech cannot achieve the deep smile you wish to have? This is not difficult to do which leaves me wondering about where you get your nails done. I am not asking you to mention names because we don't slate individual techs or salons on this site. However, there are salons which we refer to as NSS (non standard salons) which tend to lack proper customer care and where the techs have not been correctly trained and therefor lack professional skills.

Have you asked your tech for a crisp deep smile line? If the answer is yes, thern you can always find another tech/salon or seek an excellent training program before to attempt gels on yourself or anyone else for that matter.

But I hasten to warn you , nails, gels, liquid and powder (acrylic) are all very addictive to the mind and soul :wink2:.
