About as far South as you can get!
Hi girls n guys :)

There is a question at the end of this!

I asked my sister today if she still had her acrylic L & P nails on and she said no. She also said they were 'like paper and sore'.

I asked her if she had picked or soaked them off and she said 1/2 n 1/2 and I also asked her how many infills she had had on this particular set, she said she had only had the one. I know she goes to a certain nail bar in our town that even before I knew about this great place, I wouldn't have gone in if you paid me. I think you all know the type of place I'm talking about?!

Anyway, they use drills (I know drills are good given the right training and in the right hands) but I do feel this is most of the reason for this state of her nails. She did say though this hasn't happened before, so maybe I'm just being too quick to jump all over this :o

I asked her why she went there, as I know they charge the same as the lady I go to, and she said because 'they're quick, I'm too impatient'. I told her off! I said is it really worth damaging your nails for the sake of 30 minutes every 2-3 weeks? And I asked her if she had got the email I sent her (the Look mag article). She said she had and since when did I become an expert! I did say that I'm nowhere near an expert but I know good and not so good practise when I see it and I had also been reading up on the natural nail and it's qualities and how you can make the most of them, not ruin them, etc. She hasn't said anything more to me!

I really just wanted to know how I should get her to look after them and help her to get them back to their former glory, so sorry for the waffle! :o

Lashings and lashings of solar oil hun and a good nail tech.

Thanks Bubbabinks :)

I thought that would be what was needed but I just needed to know for sure before I said anything else to her.

Any ideas on how long it'll take before they sort themselves out enough for her to be able to have enhancements again (I will not allow her to go back to the same place!), or is it down to the individual's nails?

Thanks again

down to the nails... but I would still have a thin layer of L&P just to protect the nails... or gel, what she wants. because when they're like paper it's just so boring...

I would not advise this to be done. More accurate to say, that when they are like paper any new material will tend to lift and she will in turn start to pick at that and cause further damage.

She should not have any enhancement material on them if she is going to pick at it. Just Regular Solar Oil and watch them grow through ... it will take them 4-6 months to grow completely out and totally new.

Nothing will repair the damaged part of the nails until they have grown out. She'll be best off just being patient.

I agree, these damaged nails need to grow out. Your sister will just need to be patient, use a good cuticle oil and maybe just use enamel to cover up the damage, and prevent boredom!!
Although I wouldn't recommend that she changes her colour too regularly as even excess use of enamel remover is not good for these nails.

This other thread backs this up rather nicely, showing that really thin and damaged nails can't sustain a set of enhancements..........http://www.salongeek.com/nail-geek/72643-damage-nailplates.html
