Renting a chair is entirely different to a sublet. In chair rental, it is normal to pay a months rent in advance. With chair rent you supply all stock and equipment for yourself. My concern is why you opted for chair rental if you don't have your own client base? It's normally a next step for established stylists.

I am discussing with our daughter the possibility of opening a new salon for her to rent booths to other stylists therefore assisting her with the lease payment. She insists that offering maternity and vacation free rent are typical "incentives" to booth renters? I have to disagree with this mindset. When a person is selfemployed (I have been for 40 years, yikes), we still have to pay our bills when we get sick, take time off, etc. This is very outlandish to me and I would like seasoned professional's opinions in regard to this issue? My daughter is new to the industry, fyi.
Thank you in advance.

I have never heard of it either. I would figure that if you want maternity and holiday rights you would get a job. If you give those rights up in order to earn more from a chair rent then fine. Nobody can have it all.
