Hi there,

Posting this I feel a little crazy (and wish I hadn't used my name when setting up my account all those years ago), but after much lurking and vague whimsical dreams of having my own business ripping the hair from strangers I've decided to do it.

I have no pervious beauty therapy experience, just a personal interest. I love the boost in self confidence you can get from a little pampering and self maintenance. I feel like I have found a niche where I am living and want to provide male waxing services. I realise this is a specialised area and requires skill and confidence.

I have just started a waxing course, and plan to start operation my business on its competion. I guess my concern is that I will be jumping in too soon, before my skill level is good enough alienating future clientel. I live in an isolated area so I only get once chance. Working for another business is not an option for various reasons.

What I really want is for somebody to tell me to go hell for leather and I'll be successful - to jump right on in the deep and and swim hard. On the other hand I don't know enough to know when I don't know enough - and I don't want to risk what savings my son and I have (being a single mum).

Any and all opinions welcomed. Any advice on ensuring success? Or similar stories/experiences?

Thank you!

Aw go for it Hun, if your only just qualifying practice lots on friends and discounts for clients until your fully confident. Explain your just starting a business and that your prices will go up then slowly and surely when you get new clients you can quote your higher prices. Be prepared for quiet periods and really busy times! When I first qualified I didn't feel as though I was perfect so stopped offering a service only for my original clients to keep coming back and asking for it (so it couldn't have been that bad!) it's all about practice, and sticking with it, I wouldn't say you can guarantee a full income (I'm mobile) and have part time work too especially in a quiet area but once you know you've done a good job you can hold your head up high and it's always something to fall back on, Hth :)

Go for it! You have nothing to lose :D

Yes I say go for it too. Good luck! X

Go for it! If you are determined and passionate you CAN make it work!

Ask loads of questions on here and get as much free advice as possible.

Better to try something and fail than never try and regret it!!!

Good luck!

If you are just going to do waxing don't alienate yourself by only offering to males. Offer to both but promote your male waxing more.

Go for it! Good luck and we're behind you every step of the way :) x

Hey good luck with your venture. I am similar, I really want to specialise in waxing and that includes males and have just done my course. Am now practicing on as many people as possible. What I would say is dont attempt the paying public until you are ready - dont rush it - wait until you are confident. Otherwise it could take the pleasure away from your new venture.

Actually do you need a seperate qualification to do male waxing (not intimate) or can you do it just with the normal strip wax qualification?

Good luck!

xx

Thanks for the confidence boost everyone. I know I am going to give this a go either way... I just don't have many ppl to discuss my plans with or to give me an 'atta girl! My bro thinks its weird I want to work on men... *sigh*

See your point about including women but market to men. I will be giving this some serious thought. Thanks!

Does anyone want to share there "if I only knew" thoughts from when they started up?? Or best tip for success?? I
