Has anyone else received a letter stating that properties with rateable values up to £6,000 will not pay rates an dthere will be tapered relief for properties with rateable values between £6,001 and £12,000?

Aparently the new levels of relief will come into effect for 12 months from 1 October 2010.

This is great news for me. Every wee bit helps.:D

I believe this is a Scottish thing. Are you from Scotland?

I'm in Scotland. This is how it works for us up here.....

LAST YEAR

Rateable Value
£0- £8,000 100% relief
£8,001-£10,000 50% relief
£10,001-£15,000 25% relief

THIS YEAR

Rateable Value
£0-£10,000 100% relief
£10,001-£15,000 50% relief
£15,001- £??? 25% relief

This is what my understanding is. My rateable value is £8500 so this year I get 100% relief, whereas last year it was only 50%.

I am originally from Scotland but this is not a Scottish thing - I am in Herefordshire.;)

sorry got a little carried away with myself

Yes i got the same letter a couple of months ago. Think it comes into effect in October. I think it's businesses with a rateable value of up to £6k that get 100%. My letter is at work so can't check although it's probably on the net somewhere.

Yep i got the same letter, i'm in lancashire
