I have just done my indian head massage course and one of the contraindications is if the client has cancer.

I have a lady who's hair I have done for about 10 years and she has mentioned she may want to treat herself to an indian head massage, she had breast cancer about 5 years ago but she is now clear and in good health, I am still a little worried as to whether I should do the treatment or not! I wouldn't want to aggrevate the cancer just in case it is still lurking somewhere...:irked:

She has not actually asked for the treatment yet but has shown interest, so I just wanted to know incase she does...or is it just best to ask her for a doctors note to say this is ok?

Please help as I'm confussed,

If she's been in remission for 5 years, can't see it being a problem.

Next time you see her, give her a leaflet about IHM then tell her, she may wish to check with her GP or specialist re: cancer.

I've had a new client that has just had a triple bypass, I just gave her a 'very' mini manicure, and asked her to check with her medical team before she returns which she fine about.

I've just had a client book for an appointment and told me at the consultation that she's just found out she's got cancer and needed a massage to take her mind off it and help her cope. She had got it approved by her specialist before she made the appointment.

I would tread very carefully with reagrds to this client. When i did my ihm course i was told that it could make the cancer spread.(increased blood flow ,nutirents and oxygen etc?) I would ask her to get a letter from her gp or consultant just to cover your back and hers. I had a lady at a pamper party who has not long had a tumour removed and she wanted a ihm i told her i could not perform the treatment unless she had a letter from gp. She was fine with it as i think she was looking at it as though im looking out for her not just thinking of the money. she had a manicure instead and i also cut the massage out of that also(i only charged her half price for the treatment.) hth:hug:

Thank you all for your replies, it has helped to get other peoples views on this.

To make me feel comfortable I will ask to get permission from her GP then we will both feel at ease.

Thanks again:hug:

hey hun ive just completed my indian head massage course and we have been told if the client has been clear of cancer for the past five years its absolutely fine.
But maybe to be on the safe sign get a confirmation letter from her gp if your concerned..
