Hello, this is my 1st post as am not very good with computers!
I have a client who has been coming to me for around 4 years and up until the last year has always had liquid and powder and now has gel overlays. Her nails have always been fine up until the last 2 months and although her nail plates seem fine her hyponychium is building up as if there was an infection. As i say her nail plates are fine and attached and correct colour etc however i am very concerned as to what is going on underneath. Infection? I sent her off to the GP who told her nothing fungual and whats all the fuss, NEXT! I am very reluctant to continue and needed advice from other nail professionals as to how to conduct this issue. I am thinking along the lines of tinea pedis?? And have asked her to use canesten, am I wrong? In all my years I haven't come across this, please help me? x x

Hi

I found these previous threads which may be of interest? I also have extended hyponchium and some days it seems worse than others (how you described it just made it sound like this, sorry if i'm wrong??)

I prescribe all clients with "oddities" to use a drop of original formula "listerine" under the nail.
It works wonders
I'm working on another "medication" as such, but until it's proven Listerine works very well.

Google the msds on listerine and that should explain why it will work.

Thank you very mush for your replies. I had a little look at above threads and have taken some comfort, thank you. I have many times seen solehorn on clients, ie hyponychium growing up the back of the nail, however is it the same thing when the hyponychium is not so much growing up the back (lengthways) but more unsightly thickening which was the cause of the concern for infection. I have to say however I am thinking now solehorn after reading those threads as my client has always had tips on and l+p and for the last year has had not tips just her own nails with gel over the top and she has said her natural nails have never been so long and strong. So I am thinking that it has bodys natural way of supporting these long natural nails. What do you think?
