Hi,

Ive had a lady ring me today asking if i do acrylic nail extensions. I explained to her that at the moment im not yet qualified in it, however, I have covered acrylics well at college and have now moved onto fibreglass (as part of the course). I told her that I would be happy to do acrylics on her as a model as I still need to ensure I'm doing 'acrylic models' until my final assessment at the end of the course.

Anyway, she was happy to do this and then explained that she has acrylics on but they need in-fills, I recommended that in that case she should really go back to the salon where she had them done as they may be using different products to me. But; she had them done when visiting family and its too far for her to go back and have them in-filled!
I've told her that i will find out whether I can / cannot do the infills for her and will get back to her. I know that my tutor would be happy for me to do this as another student asked about it before but as college is closed next week i cant get further advise from there, so was hoping someone here might be able to help....

- What are the possible probs with doing in-fills on acrylics from another salon? If my products are of a different brand is there any major prob that could occur?
From what our tutor said to us once, the only issue you face is that the shades of the acrylic may be slightly different - is that right?

hiya ...yes your tutor is right, using a different L&P system could result in a slight colour difference, but nothing major.

Do you have your insurance yet for working on the public...??? If so and you feel happy to do this and you have explained everything to your client and she is also happy then why not.

Could you do her infills as part of your assessments at college? Maybe she could wait until college is back again?
The colour difference may not be too noticable... if you can find out the products previously used?

Hiya,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, Ive got student insurance so this will cover me for anyone that I work on out of college. Ive got lots of paperwork for them to sign from the college too that makes it clear on paper that I am NOT qualified, also includes a disclaimer for them to sign, permission to use them as a case study etc...
I explained all this over the phone and the lady was fine with this. I only normally practice acrylics etc on people I know and with them any infills are on nails that I originally put on them!..

Hi Judy! I would offer the infills at college but as we're not there next week and i have another client that will be needing her infills the week after at college I wouldnt be able to take this one in with me for at least 3 weeks..
She says they are due for infills now so obviously if i suggest she waits 3 more weeks she would be v.likely to be having probs with the enhancements by then.

I know the enhancments are clear and I suggested the possibility of colour difference but she said she will paint them anyway. She just wants to keep them on as she is a nail biter and is hoping that she can break the habit by having these on and letting her nails grow underneath..

I'd be inclined to delve deeper as to where she had her original nails done, just to rule out NSS....if you can, ask what products were used.

When a client comes to me from another salon I always ask where they had them done (I generally know what products all the salons by me use) so that makes it a bit easier to assess how the nails will be for me to rebalance.

If the existing nails are looking good, no reason why you can't rebalance. And yes, use it as a case study for your qualification.

I've infilled over nss nails before, as long as they are sound it shouldn't cause any probs at all xx
