I'm relatively new to the industry and starting out properly this year, so I will be after lots of advice!
I need insurance for practising, I am a makeup artist and also trained in lash tints, brow shapes and lash perms.

I have no idea where to start with insurance, and for the next 3-6 months at least this is part time along side my day job. I've currently had 0-6 clients a week, so its not like I have lots of clients yet.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks!

HI karenbmakeup and welcome to salongeek. There are lots of threads on here about insurance and everyone will have their own preference. If you use the search tab at the top of the page and type in 'insurance' they will all come up, also try Google. who was your training accredited by? because they will normally offer insurance as well. X :)

Thanks Shelley, I have had a little search and am currently reserahcing- google was too much of a minefield!

Thats what I am checking out now too- I have a VTCT in Cosmetic makeup, I am trying to see if that is an accredited course to be insured by BABTEC?

I intend on doing further courses too but as I am starting to trade I thought I had best start as I mean to go on.

Hi Karen
Firstly, welcome to the industry. I agree 100% with Shelley, it is worth shopping around to get the policy that is right for you. We do offer insurance through ABT but we don't believe in a hard sell, feel free to call us on 0845 0175090. We can advise you on good questions to ask insurers to make sure you find the right policy.

Welcome to the industry and to salon geek. We are delighted that you are interested BABTAC! Choosing the right insurance can be a challenge especially when you’re new to the industry, but as @Shelly_D said it’s a good idea to have a look around to make sure you have the best insurance.

We do insure VTCT in cosmetic make-up and depending on what treatments you are offering to your clients we can offer you our Specialist Membership from as little £49, which covers spray tanning, nails, make up and eyelash extensions.

If you are planning to offer more treatments than those above, you may be suited more to our Full Membership at £89 which covers a wide range of treatments and, as you are interested in doing more courses, you can add more treatments to your insurance at any time during your membership without any additional charge. All we ask is that we accept that qualification for insurance, that you hold the pre-requisites required and it is not one of our specialist treatments, as these can incur a small charge. Simply visit Specialist beauty treatment insurance from BABTAC to check.

David - I have been trying to get my salon insurance renewed for the past two weeks now. It really has been a comedy of errors. I even re-sent a copy of all my therapist certificates a week ago after our email exchange. Sadly, I am still waiting for it to be followed up. Obviously too much work for ABT to handle. Disappointing but good to know you are busy!
