I am just finishing my intimate waxing course and cant wait to get some intimate waxing bookings,i have my perron rigot hot wax and jasmine oil at the ready, just one question, people seem to be scared of having an intimate wax how can persuade them?
i was also tought to place the clients hands where you would like them to help you stretch,i think is is a lot easier this way :)

Yes it is just always remember to re-apply the oil if their hands rub it off from the stretching!

I always try and take cleints a little bit further everytime they have a wax and draw emphasis on how many woman dont go back after a brazilian as it feels so much cleaner etc. I explain that I find the top bit more painful than the lips and the pain will only be for a split second if that. If the client is worried about looking to bare down there then mention doing a triangle shape on top so that it still looks natural looking at the front.

Always good to mention more daring bikini waxes before a holiday or wedding/anniversary aswell ;)

if a customer is finding it very painful what would you recommend?

ive been doing basic bikini waxes sometimes much further in using strip wax but can see from what all you saying its time to go on some advanced training in hot wax - any courses anyone can recommend in northern ireland?

Hey hun,

This is my area of expertise thanks to being a head therapist at Strip waxing boutique in London :)

All the other geeks have given you great advice but I thought I would share my tips anyway!

Firstly always be prepared for the unprepared or unusual clients! I have experinced all sorts and doing male intimate waxing aswell lets just say men are not the cleanest of creatures

Secondly NEVER use strip wax on an intimate area... or any sensitive area really. Strip wax will not give you a clean finish if you have a client with excessive or strong hair growth (post shavers/polycystic ovary clients etc.) It just breaks the hair or gets stuck and very messy :( also it hurts a hell of lot more than hot wax.

Thirdly once you have the hang of hot wax dont be afraid to get in there, always have one hand gloved (the hand you press with) and use this as your stretching hand. Good firm stretches show the client your confident and keeps them comfortable. With regard to asking the client to stretch upwards, I highly recommend it once the wax is on and set of course :) The better the stretch the less pain!!

And lastly always trim the hair if it is to long to avoid tangling!!

Hope that helps :)

I do intimate male waxing and I have to say that I've never had one that wasn't clean and I do a fair few!
Also, whilst I much prefer hot wax on intimate areas, there are some very successful waxers that use strip wax. To say that strip wax will not give you a clean finish with certain clients is incorrect.
I never use strip wax on intimate areas and I do think that non-strip wax is much gentler but there are some waxers on here that have used strip wax for years and are very competent.
I'd also wear 2 gloves.
I agree that you can't be squeamish or shy, you do just have to get in there!
It is our job to get the hairs out whatever body part we are waxing.
Once you've done a few then it will become second nature and you won't even bat an eyelid when doing it.

A couple of Paracetemol 30 minutes before appointment.

Avoid waxing when period is due.

I provide my clients with a towel to squeeze, bite, put over their head, bite it and hum at the same time. Or just as a comfort blanket lol.

All of the above are things clients do/have done with said towel.

I also provide cool air blowing on their faces - if I could only find a way of adding gas to the air it would be fab.

I don't wear gloves just for the record, and thank you to all who don't approve but it is my choice.

And I am sure if the clients don't approve they won't come back.

Peace and respect.

Jacqui

Lucky you for never having a smelly male client!

I guess in our industry we will always have the debate about strip and hot wax however I am just stating what I have seen to be true through trial and error over the years and from personal experiance I can confidently recommend hot wax all the way!

jacquie thanks for the tips they're brill!

re the gloves fair play thats your choice, personally im meticulous about hygiene and always been ocd about scrubbing hands and would not go near a bikini wax without gloves

Totally respect that.

I would like to add that I sanitise my hands before I start and again when finished or before moving on to another body part.

I agree with Jacquie on how to minimise the pain!

Alongside with avoiding waxing when on their period also avoid waxing if client is feeling run down, tired and hungry!!

It will always be more painful if client is pregnant too.

And providing a good firm presurre after taking the wax off always helps tone down the sting.

Im not sure about training in Northern Ireland hun, sorry. In London I would recommend the Lycon training :)

Add to the list of recommendations NOT to consume caffeine if possible... I'm a bit of a caffeine junkie and I wasn't thinking one day before doing my own pits... it's always painful but I nearly had the perfect excuse for a new window in the roof!!! Once I'd started though I had to carry on... it was not pleasant... right up there with me having to do a pit having forgotten to apply my layer of oil to myself... will not be making THAT mistake again in a hurry!

I only use strip wax as I prefer it.
I'm very fortunate that I have a shower in my salon so if I did happen to get a client that was less than clean, then I would point them in that direction :)

LOL! The joys of waxing ourselves!! :green:

Part of the reason I wear gloves always for intimate waxing is to kind of medicalise the procedure. There is no bona fide doctor in the western world who would carry out any examination of genitalia without wearing gloves for at least two very important reasons.
One, it's far less likely to be misconstrued as a sexual advance (ok, I know some people get off on the weirdest things, but you know what I mean), and two, which is arguably far more important, the risk of the transmission of blood borne pathogens such as Hep B and HIV.
There is very often a teeny tiny blood spot or two doing brazilians and I'm not prepared to risk it.
Of course I respect people's choices but I'd just be concerned for your health and safety, that's all.
I've paid a not inconsiderable sum to have Hep B jabs because you just never know, and my many years of being a theatre sister have made me ultra cautious.
Oh, and Hep B lasts outside the body for at least 7 days whereas HIV is very fragile and will die within a few minutes, so Hep B is much more dangerous.
Finally, people don't always know or disclose when they have such infections so I treat everyone as if they do have it, for my safety and for that of the rest of my clients.
Can you tell that infection control was one of my bugbears!

Thank you emma, I actually use Lycon hot wax, though I know a lot of geeks do do brazilians with strip (ouch!)

I did St Johns whilst my partner at the time was a paramedic and his sister a wound specialist nurse... I TOTALLY get your germ phobia :) Add to that years of doing IT where I was going in to labs including in complete hazmat outfits... I appreciate those were exceptional circumstances but having seen the care that labs take even with what is considered "normal" bacteria... No thanks... I'll wear my gloves (and I have my hep B too :D), not double dip and disinfect everything carefully :)

I'm not saying I'm not CDO (like OCD but the letters are the right way round ;) ) about cleanliness and everyone else is perfectly up to scratch - but like Lynne... we have reasons for doing things the way we do I think :)

I would like to think everyone takes care with regard to cleanliness and disinfection.

I haven't done the intimate wax course yet but I had my first Hollywood last Friday, I found the top part the most painful, the therapist used a cold damp paper towel to help set the wax but also used this immediately on the area after the wax was removed, it felt like an instant relief and really soothed the area.

Not heard of that one before...

I did the Lycon course & absolutely loved it.

Love hot wax however when it comes to the top section of the lip, almost hood area it can sometimes get stuck? I really hate this

This has only happened once but it has really scared me!
