Is it the gel or client abuse?

:rolleyes:Hello Geeks!

Im having a nightmare with a client!!!

she had some gel orverlays put on last thursday, and for one reason or another 2 of them have come off on her right hand, so im due to go back today 1.30 to sort the problem out FREE of charge.
After calling her this morning to confirm appointment she has advised me that her nails are a mess (i think she has removed them her self not sure how many she is missing now!) and she has said that she has red spots on her nails and she is in agony and very unhappy.

she has informed me thats its my gel and she thinks she is allergic to it. i said that if she was then this would have been very sore straight away not a week later, i also asked her if she had picked them off as she may have took some of her natural nail off and bruised her nail bed. She said she hadnt but im not so sure,

I have called light box (maker of gel) and they said that it doesnt sound like she is allergic and it could be how she has removed them.

To be honest im really worried as she is a right gob and tells everyone everything!! and i dont want her to say i have done it to people.

Has anyone come accross red spots on natural nail before? could it be the gel? or how she has removed them?

Thanks in advance

well the gel you used is a buff off gel right ?

so either she has filed them off, picked them off, or has gone to another professional for removal. other than that she has knocked them off and the damage has been cause by the trauma.

if it was an allergy, the redness would have occurred earlier and would be on the skin.

so the other thing that could have gone wrong is that you overfiled the natural nail when applying them. i'm thinking you know that you didnt or you wouldnt be posting this.

that leaves either self inflicted damage or damage by some other tech if she had them removed professionally.

either way its not your fault. if she is the type of person that is going to tell everyone it was you then theres not much you can do about that. people like that cant be reasoned with.

i always give clients an aftercare card that makes their responsibilities quite clear. i never mind people breaking, picking off or abusing their nails, just as long as they dont blame me !

Thanks for your reply,

I have been and done her and she had picked everyone off!! so no wonder she was in agony with red spots!!

i knew as soon as i saw them that it was nothing i had done and i told her this, but i did her a free manicure and advised her not to have gels in future if she is going to pick them off as it will do more damage!!

She has re booked for another manicure next week.

So panick over!!

Thank you for your advice

likewise !

at least she rebooked so it wasnt such a waste.
hope she becomes a regular for you and not a costly charity case.

It is sooo important as nail professionals that we advise our clients how to look after their enhancements (a homecare/aftercare fact sheet reinforces your advice given in the salon) We cannot assume that our clients will have what we believe is "common sense", we have been educated, they have not, it is our duty as the nail professional to educate them. (of course a horse can be lead to water, but you cannot make it drink:rolleyes:)
Upon my client returning to the salon, I would take the time to explain "in my professional opinion" what I believe has happened and work with the client to ensure that she is happy and is of complete understanding as to how enhancements need to be looked after. I would be happy to re-enhance depending on the damage presented or offer the manicure service and an at home care programme to get her nails back into good condition.
Recommendation: CND Toughen up, Solar Oil
I would also follow up this client with a phone call to ensure all is going well within 3 days.
