As a hair and beauty salon owner I signed upto Salongenius about a month ago.
I'm finding that very frequently I'm getting errors doing trivial tasks using the software (whether it be modifying a clients name or moving an appointment) and these errors are usually runtime errors.

The software was sold to me on the premise that it could support a hair and beauty salon, however I very quickly realised that if I have a beauty client that requires a treatment that requires a beauty room (eg for a waxing) that the software could not book out the room on the system.
I'm planning on handing it back within the month if its stability issues are not fixed. You could associate it's problems to having a car and saying it works as long as you dont try to use the back seat.

My background is corporate IT covering several disciplines. However I feel this software is very overpriced for something so poorly written. In fact most salon systems are overpriced for what you get compared to other software in the market.

Also, I'm guessing now, but I may try to make a discreet call around to several salon shortly. but I guess that most salons use their software for basic booking of appointments and not the advanced features.

Feedback appreicated on your experience of Salon Genius.

Hi
I don't use Salongenius, I run a small spa (5 rooms and 8 staff, some part time) and as I have said many times on threads like this, we use Essentials from DWB Solutions.
I have been with them over 2 years now and have had no trouble with the system at all, the only problems I have had is if one of the staff has done something wrong and their support staff has always been great and have put it right again.

We have to book out staff, rooms and equipment; the system can handle all of this and is simple to use, you can do all sorts of things not just book appointments but keep up to date client records, retail stock control, staff commissions also SMS Text to client's mobile phone and it has lots of management reports like most popular services, client spending patterns etc.. and the system can be password protected, so you know who did what and when.
Yes I paid £1,600 but it’s worth every penny, I have unlimited phone support and training for my staff.
If I was in your position I would look around at other systems. I found when I was looking that the cheaper ones could not do every thing that I wanted like stock control and packages and the more expensive ones I found was too expensive for my pocket. So I went for the one in the middle and I’m so happy I did because you are not the only one who has complained about their software system.
Give DWB Solutions a try Spa Software and Salon Software for the management of Spa's, Day Spa's, Hotel Spa's Beauty Salon's and Clinics from DWB Solutions Ltd or phone 01626 830455
I hope you get it sorted out.

Hi there, its a shame your having so much hassle with your software, as the software is supposed to make the management of your salon easier not more stressful! If you do end up returning the software and are looking for a new provider make sure you have a trial period first to ensure it has all the advanced features you require, during this trial period you should also ring the company up with any problems you encure to see how efficiently they are dealt with then, this will give you an idea of the level of customer service before you commit to the purchase!
