Is there a need for gel overlays now that we have Shellac?

Ive been asked for gel overlays but wondering is there any point now that theres shellac

Builder gel is a lot stronger than just gel polish. Gel polish is designed for colour longevity not so much added strength. There is little or no strength in Gel Polish.

Yes, plenty of point, but it all depends on what the client wants :)

1) For strength or if they want more length without worrying that their nails might break. 2) For nails that are not suitable for Shellac (like weaker nails, or thinner nails). 3) For looks/aesthetic reasons.

Yea was thinking maybe she wanted more strength.

Of corse there is a point. Like other have said shellac is not comparable to an overlay. Many clients have naturally thin and weak nails that break easily or ones that are damaged by over processing from other salons. to cater to their needs it’s important to offer overlay for these women who would like to grow their nails naturally even if they are thin or damaged. It helps for some ex nail biters too to give them some extra to their nails as many who have bitten nail for long time will never get a strong hard nail naturally again.
