Hi,
As somone who is thinking of moving into beauty, i keep getting told that there is too much competitiom especially in london. What has everyone else experienced?

As in any profession there is always space for new skilled professionals who have something different to offer. Anyone who thinks all salons and therapists are the same is missing out. There is always a space for an improved version!

I agree, clients just need to be educated that everyone specialises in something different. I think as well if there was only one salon per area the owner would get pretty lax and wouldn't be top of her game.

On the other hand it's infuriating when people set up on their own when they're not really up to scratch. Then you get clients in saying oh i dont want that done i once had that done at such and such a place and this that and the other happened, but if they'd came somewhere decent in the first place it wouldn't have happened. it just puts everyones reputation at stake not just theirs

With hair and beauty there has always been lots of competition, its not a new thing. London and its surroundings have always been intensly competitive. So you compete to be the best!

I think any 'enjoyable' profession - there is always lots of competition.

There are literally hundreds of make-up artists, photographers, models, nail techs, hairdressers beauty therapists, chefs, cake makers, artists, fashion designers, interior designers. Anything that has creativity surrounding it, that can identify one from another.

Thats not a bad thing tho.

All winners never give up - so if you want to stay in your profession you have to fight for it and if you want it badly - you will succeed.

And, never listen to other people opinions - if we all did that, we would never do anything in life.
