Hi all, popped over from skin geek for some all round general advice, hope this is ok.
I want to go from dark brown (coloured) to this grey/purple colour and wondered if it's achievable and how long it might take?! I have asked a friend of mine who is a qualified hairdresser but do you think this is something that needs to be done by someone who specialises in colour? I'm just aware that it's a really big change! I've attached a pic of my hair now and what I want.....
Many thanks :) ImageUploadedBySalonGeek1408357597.087798.jpgImageUploadedBySalonGeek1408357608.500339.jpg

You need to go to a hairdresser, and they will do a strand test then can tell you if its achievable. Your hair is very dark, and that colour needs to go very light before putting the lilac on. Therefore its not a good idea, because your hair will be exceptionally damaged, if still in one piece!

Its not a good idea to ask other hairdressers their advice, then tell your hairdresser what we have said, You should ask your hairdresser what she/he thinks.

Thanks very much for your advice. It was a friend who I mentioned it to (who is a hairdresser). I was wondering whether it would need to be done by someone specialising in colour because it's such a huge difference or if this is the sort of thing any qualified hairdresser can do. I'll go to the hairdressers and ask them to do a strand test then, but sounds like it may be a no-go if it's going to damage my hair that much :(

I wouldnt say its the kind of thing any old hairdresser can do, as there are lots out there who unfortunately arent as attentive and up to date on skills as they should be. I would find a reputable salon, maybe look on facebook or instagram at salon/stylists portfolio and make your judgement based on that.
I personally would advise you that it would be a step by step process, as that lavender colour is applied over the lightest blonde, so essentially you want to go platinum. Any hairdresser that reckons they can take it lavender in one step is probably going to damage your hair. If you would like to go lighter overall and are prepared to invest both money and time in maintaining your colour, then this could be achieved gradually through taking you lighter each time you visit the salon.
