Hi all

I need a bit of advice, I've been looking on Fotalia and Istock Photos. Now I know 300 dpi is best, but Istock don't specify what dpi their photos are. Have any of you used them? Are they ok to just go ahead and buy. Its for my website, but I'd like to use one or two for flyers too.

HELP PLEASE :D

iStockPhoto does say what the DPI for a particular image is if you click on the link that says "Inches" on the table where it gives you the various sizes.

e.g. a "Small" image may be 802 x 599 pixels but 11.1 x 8.3 inches @ 72 dpi

whereas a "Medium" image may be 1604 x 1197 pixels but 5.3 x 4.0 inches @ 300 dpi

(that just being an example of a particular image I've bought off iStock in the past).

For flyers, you'll definitely want at least 300 dpi too - so you'd buy an image at 300 dpi that is at least as large as you'd want it to appear on your flyer - I believe that it should be OK to use the same image on your website too, but please do check the licensing terms to be sure.

Although if you only want to use an image on your website, but not on a flyer, then you'll normally not need them any bigger than the cheapest "XSmall" images...

I'd always go for a large 300dpi version. You can always bring it down in resolution to use it on the web...but never up in resolution, from a web image to a print-ready one.

But yeah, it does specify on there the dots per inch (DPI).

Thanks, I should just pm either one of you really, I knew one of you would give me the answer :D

Thanks again
