hello everyone,
ive recently switched to cnd l&p, and i now know how to correctly prep the nail, and its working as i hardly get any lifting, but it just takes me so blooming long!! its best part of a hour before i get started applying tha acrylic! this is very bad isnt it but i just cant seem to speed up. did anyone else find this? also everyone i do seems to have cuticle covering there entire nail is this normal?
one last question im still only using tips, and have not ever used the primer, do i only use that when sculptering? thanks guys.x

I think you must be way overdoing whatever you are doing :green:. Prep should take a decent amount of time but in proportion to doing a whole service it is about 10 minutes.

Yes, sometimes there is cuticle present on much of the nail surface.

You really should not need to use primer with any CND monomer. I never have. Whether you sculpt or tip this makes no difference. CND offer a primer more for those who can't seem to live without it ... some just are that way.

Hi there, I too find that I am taking a while on prep, in all it takes me about 30-40 mins for prep and to apply my forms (I am sculpting) so I find that by the time I have sculpted my right hand I need to scrub fresh my left hand again, due to the 30 min thingy.

Primer only needs to be used with radical (if using cnd monomer) if you are using retention+ as I do there is no need to use primer as it is keratin bonding, and creates a covelant bond. I think moxie is the same???

I think in time you will start to get more confident and your time on prep will become less, aslong as you are getting nice nails with no lifting, I wouldnt worry for now (thats what I am thinking anyways haha) Takes me about 2-2.15 hrs to do full set of sculpts hth xxxx

Actually this information is incorrect. There is no need to use primer with Radical monomer and the use of primer is completely optional.

Radical is my personal favourite monomer to work with and I never ever have used primer when using it.

Radical was the first primerless monomer to be introduced into the nail industry in 1994.

ok thanks, is good to know i am not alone! :)
i dont know why its taking me so freaking long! its very annoying as im sure i could get a set done in a reasonable time if i could just speed up my prep! but as you say katie standard of nails is the most important thing at the moment rather than speed!
thanks for the info on the primer to.x
p.s got your book the other day geeg! its very good!

Sorry, I did mean to put optional. Just what I was taught that primer use is less needed in retention+ (but also can be used if needed) than that off radical, but also optional.

Sorry to go off a bit, Geeg is radical, faster setting down than retention. I am using retention at the moment but have heared great things about radical and was wandering what benefits it has over retention. Thanks

this does make a difference in your timing.

Both Radical and Retention+ set in about 3 minutes, Moxie in 1 1/2. Radical creates a tougher enhancements, for clients who are hard on their nails. If they are hard on their nails and ALSO lift prone, you can use CND Nail Prime :)

Check out the CND.com website - they have some great tutorials on video there and there is one for prep. I found following the routine they have really helped me to speed up this area!

Do you have a link for the CND.com, with the nail prep tutorial. Wld luv to see it.

I reckon that most new comers will have the same problem. The more pratice you do the quicker you will become. Its taking me prob around 30-40 mins between prep and tip application. all in all is taking me about 1.45, but the more I do the faster I become.

Good luck

I also take 40 - 50 mins for prep, I've tried so hard to speed it up but I just can't without feeling that I'm cutting corners which I refuse to do! At the moment I'm only doing 1 or 2 sets of nails a week as I'm only working evenings and weekends and mostly doing gel toes or pedicures, so I'm still taking around 2 hours for a full set of L&Ps. I had a nightmare last night as the product was setting so fast I wasn't getting the time to place it on the nail and ended up with lumpy bumpy enhancements which then took forever for me to file down, took 2½ hours to do the set and still wasn't entirely hapy with them. I'm assuming this was caused by the heat as I've not had this problem with the last few sets I've done, but it was really clammy last night. I tried using a wetter bead but then found it was going on too thin, any hints or tips on what I should do if this happens again?

Yes .. find a ratio somewhere in between the two that you were making OR and this is a good tip .. use more beads but smaller and just place and press each into place quickly covering the area.

yeh im using a metal cuticle to push back the cuticle and a chizel to remove any traces from the nail plate, tho it is the tools i got in my college kit, could investing in some better quility tools poss save me time?x

Thanks Geeg, I panicked a bit when I was doing the treatment and was just trying to get the L&P on and pressed out as quickly as possible and I think I was probably using even bigger beads than normal to try and speed it up, but using smaller beads makes perfect sense, if only I'd been able to stay calm and think of that at the time, yet another important lesson in this gigantic learning curve . Thanks again for your advice.
