Hi, today was my first day of doing Pedicure so my tutor had us all practising on each other once she had taught us a basic procedure.

That was a few hours ago, and this evening I've noticed a couple of little, itchy white bumps under my skin on the side of my wrist. One is bigger than the other. They're soft, not hard so I don't think they are milia.

I'm a bit worried I may have picked up something from one of the other students when I was working on her feet - we used gloves up until the massage when my tutor suggested we should take them off. I didn't notice anything seriously wrong with the other students' feet but then again I am a beginner. However I think if my tutor had noticed any contra-indications she would have said so. So I'm not quite sure what these bumps might be. Has anyone ever seen/had anything similar?

xx

P.S. I forgot to add that I would obviously ask my tutor, but it's an open learning intensive course so I've finished for this week now and don't go back to the college until end of next week :)

Have you used any of the pedicure products before - especially the massage lotion? It is unlikely that you have contracted anything from someones feet, more probable that you have had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients.

Are the bumps on the same side as your little finger?

I would apply some anti-histamine cream if you have it or a cold compress to the bumps and definately mention it to your tutor.

Hiya,

I'd used the hand massage lotion the day before but not the foot lotion. I assumed they might have the same ingredients but I will check! They are on the same side as my little finger, just down on my wrist :)

Thanks!

Is it possible you are having a reaction to the gloves you were wearing?

Some latex gloves can really irritate my hands, so I do try to avoid wearing gloves & then if I have to , I use powder free, non-latex ones, i think they are called 'Nitrile'. I've not got the box infront of me to check, but it's worth considering if it's the 1st time you have used the gloves that is?

I think you can rule out that it was something you "picked up" from the pedicure. In all my 10 years of doing pedicures (without gloves) I have never gotten anything. It definetly sounds like a reaction to product or gloves.

I think the fact that it is on the side of the little fingers suggests that it is most likely the massage lotion because if you picture in your mind how you massage the lower leg it is that side of the hand/wrist that touches the skin and will get the lotion on it.

Have you ever had a reaction to products before, whether at college or at home?

Within the first 2 weeks of starting college the skin on my hands completely peeled off! I looked like a snake. We put this down to the products (usually cheap ones in college:rolleyes:) but then it was fine after that. My tutor said that she had never seen anything like it before.

almost certainly a reaction, whether it be the gloves or product of some description. With gloves - usually the reaction begins around fingers and backs of hands rather than around wrist, with an eczema type reaction.

Have you used a different perfume?

Thanks guys, I actually think it may have been either the gloves [there seemed to be a lot of powder in there] or the lotion. The bumps have gone down now so I'm not too concerned!

Cheers for the help :)
