I recently trained in makeup and am looking for a makeup range to use on my Clients. I have read a great deal on here about the different makeup ranges but still can't decide which to go for. I am down to two, Jane Iredale or MAC. As there is a start up fee with Jane Iredale of £500 I can't really afford to do both. MAC is winning me over at the moment and I am waiting for my MAC card before I order.

Has anyone any preferences between these two? I know MAC is not a mineral makeup, does this matter? Why is there a big deal about mineral makeups now anyway?

Thanks for you help xx

Mineral make up is good because it is kinder to the skin. it is good to retail because you can sell it as a skin care range as well as a make up as minerals are anti inflammitary making it perfect for sensitive, acne or rosacea skins and they have an SPF. however not all "mineral make ups" do. there only needs to be 1% minerals in a product to be able to label it as a mineral make up. this means that most of them still have dodgy chemicals in the. I use Jane Iredale as it is one of the 2 mineral make up brands which is 100% minerals.
Hope this was helpful.

Thanks so much, I am finding it so hard to make up my mind. I received my MACPRO card yesterday but was dissapointed that I cant order on line. I have a rep from Jane Iredale coming to see me tomorrow. The only thingi'm concerned about is the cost to set up of £500 and a further £85 for training! Thanks again x

i personally prefer to use makeup from a selecton of brands
i plan to use MAC, Bobbi, Clinique, Chanel, Dior etc ..
when i qualified, i spent several months going to various makeup counters and trying out different cosmetics
i like Chanel for their founsations, MAC for their eyeshadows, pigments and some lippies, Clinique for their eyeshadows, lippies and transluscent poweder, Bobbi for the palettes and yellow powder and Dior for mascaras
i dont like the idea of only using one particular brand as i prefer different products from different brands - this is only my personal opinion, and i dont mean any offence to any mua who use one brand of makeup
i know jane iredale is quite popular, but i (again only my opinion) i think MAC has more credibility and is well know to most people, in fact i have have 2 enquiries in the last few weeks from customers asking if i use MAC
hope this helps

Hi,

Do you have to just stick to one brand?
Most make up artist have a selection of different brands some of my favourites are;
Bobbi brown, Smashbox, Models prefer, Mac, Laura Gellar,

I get a lot of my make up from QVC, they have some good offers worth a look they have a website too.

I agree with blush09 and EMMA AT ELITE. Why do you wish to keep to one brand of make-up?

I understand the idea behind being able to retail a whole brand, but IMO you really are limiting the versatility available to your clients with a wide range of top end professional cosmetics such as Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, YSL, and MAC to name a few.

I personally don't think mineral make-up is necessarily kinder to the skin. The ranges I have already mentioned are of excellent quality which is one reason they maintain their popular status on the market.

A mineral make-up could possibly be kinder to to someone with very sensitive skin such as acne or rosacea, but in the long run, how many clients are you likely to meet in your make-up business who have these skin types?....... not as many as warrants settling for one brand of make-up.

The wonderful thing about having a mixed professional kit, is that you can mix, match and adapt to suit your clients needs.

I WOULD DEFINATELY USE MAC:hug:

I use JI and absolutly love it, I dont need to use anything else from other brands because they have everything and it really is a skin care make up.

thank you sooo much for all your coments. I have ordered the JI range as it seems so good and gives me a starting point. I will take your comments on board about using other ranges too. xxx

good choice. you wont be disappointed

Does the £500 include retail and testers as well as salon use? I bought some of their products at the show to try on myself as they told me that it wouldn't irritate my highly sensitive skin and I'm looking forward to trying them.:)
