I work in an office full time and I am doing a gel nail course on Sunday. I will be mobile from April (I’m being made redundant and I’ll be a hairdressing apprentice level 3 from April). I have student insurance and will convert to full once qualified.
So my plan is to apply a number of gels (overlays and extensions) to my workmates for free and monitor them over the time I have left working there to try and ensure my product is spot on. From April I will need some extra income so that’s when I plan to start mobile. Im thinking the next few months I should be concentrating on building my portfolio and perfecting my application? I have practice hands and templates at home plus a few of my workmates have challenging nails. I do a lot of art so my main specialism will be nail art and hopefully fantastic sculpted nails! Do I need to think about anything else?

I'd be investing in more training asap if you have a rigid plan you need to stick to. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you can't learn to apply gels in just one day. If you read through the posts on her we regularly get posts about inadequate training from one day courses. Use the search button on here and read through the past posts for training suggestions and options

Good shout..I’ve completed acrylics training, plus I’ve been doing gel nails on myself. The salon that I will be volunteering are happy to give me additional on the job training...I think I’ll definitely gauge my training and happy to put more money towards getting up to a good level of expertise. I’m reasonably proficient at acrylics but I prefer gels. I was going to do brand training with the gels once I find a brand I like. I’ve put aside £500 but could up this if necessary. I want to be a good gel nail tech and saw the 1 day training as a gateway really
