how long you have your lamps set to??

my u.v lamp has a 90 sec and 120 sec switch on it. i always use the 120 but the other girls in the salon always cure the nails twice each. i mainly use gel to topcoat my L&p's and most of the time its fine, but sometimes when i wipe the residue off the shine comes off also. the girls always say 'its cos you told cure twice'

does anyone else cure twice or is it cos i use acetone to wipe off??

my bulbs are brand new and as i said it only happens sometimes.
thanks:)

I use a Brisa lamp it has a 10 second cure and a 2 minute cure.
I will lock the Gel with 10 seconds after applying it on 2 fingers then when all four are done I do 2 min.
After wiping the residue off the gel it isn't very shiny this will only happen if you buff it or with the Brisa apply a UV Topcoat.

hi ya
it might also be the grit size of you abrasives, if you've used higher than a 180 or an old one you might not have roughed up the L&P enough for the top coat to stick, also have you swiped the nail with scrub fresh (or a like) before the top coat, this makes sure no oils are remaining on the nail surface.

You can also get finishing gel topcoats that have no sticky layer to remove after curing!
I use one by Nsi called Glaze & Go (cures in a 36watt lamp) and it stays perfectly shiney between rebalances. Hth x

Try using a product specially formulated to remove gel residue - or at least non-acetone polish remover. I think the acetone might have something to do with losing the shine.

Never heard of curing twice- unless it's a gel sculpt and you're curing again with the hand turned over iykwim

Scrubfresh contains acetone and is used for removing the inhibition layer from Brisa gel, the shine is unaffected.

Muggle, which UV gel are you using? Which UV lamp are you using to cure your gel?
Are they the correct ones, ie is your lamp specifically designed to be used with your gel?

Yes but according to her profile she is using NSI and Salon Systems, which might be different? Also a product containing acetone is perhaps not as harsh as pure acetone? just my thoughts :)

i use ibd gel, my salon systems is jus my beauty products. to be honest im not sure the lamp is a particular make its jus the one that my boss supplied with my table

i do use scrubfresh to wipe over before gelling, but i use actone to wipe off gel residue.

the reply about my grit could be the problem as i do go thru alot of clients a day and my files do suffer! lol:lol:

i tried telling my clients today to make sure they put there hands right into the lamp as i thought they could be not going in properly and i didnt hav a problem today, but this could be coincidence.

The nails will also appear dull if there is an incomplete cure due to the bulbs being old .. . ?

the bulbs are brand new x

is IBD a buff off or soak off gel? if its a soak off thats where your problem is.

i do believe its a buff off

i do believe its a buff off
IBD is a buff off gel, therefore acetone wouldn't affect it if you're using it to remove the inhibition layer.

Can I ask you, how much training have you had using IBD gel?
It would be in your interest (and that of your clients) to take a 1-2-1 class to ensure you're application and knowledge of the gel is spot on.

I think the problem lies with your lamp (more than likely) not being the one recommended for the gel system, if the salon were using the correct lamps then double curing wouldn't be an option in the first place.

hth's

iv never had a problem with the lamp i have been using it for the last 2 years. i have been using the ibd for about 6 months as i was recomended it by one of the gel specialists in the salon. as i said i use it only for top coat, and find it cost effective to bye rather then permagloss.

i think its my files as i have jus started using a different brand that im not completely happy with anyway.

thanks for all the advice. x

GlazenGo by NSI does a fab job, cures in 90 seconds under 4 x 36w bulbs hth x

What product are you using? I like the intense seal over L&P, no inhibition layer to remove. It's a 2-3minute cure.
