 Hi Guys,
I'm really stuck with a friend of mine who I've been practising on. She's had gel tips a few weeks ago and they just keep popping off (apparently).

Every few days I seem to be getting a phone call saying that one has come off, so she comes over and I redo the ones that have come off. Yesterday she came over and she only had two nails left (a week after I had replaced some).

I redid the eight nails and this morning she rang and said one of her thumbs had come off when she was sleeping!!! Her thumbs seem to be the worst. I think my prep is good, I do everything that I have been taught - remove cuticle from nail, scrub fresh 5 secs per nail and remove the shine. I then apply the tip and use the gel products as instructed.

She's a trainee hairdresser, if that makes any difference?
Can anyone help me find where I'm going wrong, because they just won't stay on!

Cheers,
Heather

Ok,

Give us a step by step what you are doing - what do you use to remove cuticle for example?

Is she wearing them too long?

Are you charging her - this may sound like a silly question but it is human nature that if you dont value your work then neither will she - even if it is psychologically.

Her job will not make any difference - if the nails are on properly then nothing like having hands in water, is going to cause them to lift, otherwise they could be soaked off in water.

If however, they are too long, or touching the skin then this could cause the lifting and then other factors will be making it worse.

Is there damage to the natural nail - if there is then they have had trauma in order to come off - they dont just come off while you are sleeping.

Thanks for your reply naturalnails.

I begin my sanitising her hands and scrub freshing her nails. I file the nails to size and shape to fit the tips. I then use Creative cuticle remover and remove the dead skin with a cuticle push and curette. I then use scrub fresh for five seconds on each nail and remove the shine from the nails. I apply the tips and carry on the process from there using gel bond etc... I apply two layers of pink gel, two layers of white and then one of finishing.

I'm not charging her because, although I've done a leaflet drop fo models, I haven't had any replies. So in order for me to practise I asked her.

They're not very long, and every time I replace an nail I make sure that it shorter than the previous one, to see if this is the problem.

I am unclear about touching the skin. Do you mean the gel or tip touching the skin?

Thanks for your help,
Heather

so are we talking BRISA gel?

  • are you removing the cuticle remover (with water/citrisoak)
  • are you removing the shine off the natural nail with a koala?
  • are you building up enough of an apex?
  • are you using the brisa lamp?
she is lying to you that they just FELL OFF. Nails dont just FALL OFF.

Try and be firm and get to the bottom of HOW and WHY they are coming off - get her to keep a diary if needs be....

Oh and one final bit of advice.....GET ANOTHER MODEL TOO !

See how they get on

I'm using all the Creative products until I have saved up enough to do the Creative course (and Brisa lamp). When I do my own nails, they stay on for weeks and the same for my mother's - it's just with my friend's nails.

I am removing the cuticle remover with scrub fresh on a clean pad not with citrus soak and water, but I did the same for other nails I have done in the past, including my own, and they didn't fall off. I'm using a koala board to remove the shine and building up the apex.

She siad once they begin lifting at the tip they just fall off, and she's promised me that she doesn't pick at them.

I just don't know what to do?!

You will never get the best out of your products if you dont do the appropriate training.

As to my questions - yes I did mean the gel touching the skin - this will most definately cause lifting.

Referring to your answer to my post - do you not use the liquid bond first before doing your pink?

No one in the UK is authorised to sell Brisa or any other Creative products except Hyperion and their approved sub distributors - how do you know it is what it says on the tin - it may not be your application but the products themselves - just a thought?

i think all will become clear after you have done the creative course chick....you really do need to be shown and taught to use the products to there best advantage...its not the products that are the problem here. HTH xx

You haven't got it so you are not using the Brisa UV Lamp then!! Hello!!!!! I wonder why they could be undercuring and peeling?

not using the correct lamp is probably the answer to the problems....however...if your nails and your mums nails last ok the way you are currently doing it either your friends nails ARE NOT suited to the gel or SHE IS PICKING.

I would definatly recommend training in BRISA to get the best from the product.

EVERY gel applies differently and if you havent been shown the correct way then yep you can EXPECT problems !

Where are they 'lifting from' did you say the TIP?? Are you CAPPING the free edge?

Thanks for all of your replies.

As I said before I have applied gel nails to both myself and my mother and they have both been fine - only slight lifting after a week or two. This is the first time it has happened. So - although I know I need the Brisa lamp (which I am planning to get) I know that it is not the problem in this instance.

Whatever gel I use I should be trained by the company, so I'm wondering what gel I should use before doing specific training? I can't do the training with the manufacterer until I have made money to pay for it. And I can't make money to pay for it until I am able to perform treatments on people. It's a viscious circle.

In response to the questions:
- I do use liquid bond before applying the pink
- The distributor of the products I buy has sold me alot of things and all have been top quality, so I don't believe them to be selling false products and doubt them or their conduct

Thanks for all of your replies, but I'm pretty sure that it's not that I'm not using the correct lamps or because I haven't trained with them - because I have done Brisa gel nails several times before and they haven't had this problem.

i have to say that having had the advise from those in the know and very experienced Brisa users, are you really in a position to question them...?? if Charles Worthington told me my hair was in poor condition then my hair is in poor condition...:)

I truly don't mean that in a negative way.... what i mean is...they have far more experience and the knowledge to know what they are saying to be fact. I hope you can see what i am trying (or failing..) to say.

I know its hard with the money thing...but if you saved the money you are spending on these gels then you could put that toward your training.

You'll get so much and more with the training and a full kit is included in the price...and the lamp. xx

I understand all of the advise I was given and completley agree that it is best to use a Brisa lamp and have the correct training - however I am just trying to point out that as I have done this several times with no problems then it can't be the facts mentioned.

I understand that everyone on here has alot more knowledge about the nail world but it just doesn't make sense that only now I am having problems with the lamp and my practise, just on this one occasion.

I am not trying to say that I know more than any of you, because I know for a fact I don't - it just doesn't make sense.

Maybe she is one of those clients whose nails just can't tolerate wearing gel? They are about, they do exist. Not all systems suit everyone. That is why we all need to be full service to offer alternatives.

Thanks Geeg for your advise. It does make alot of sense, because I haven't had this problem before. I mentioned to her today that I might try l&p because some people do have problems with different systems. I'll have a go with l&p next time she comes over and let you all know how it goes.

I understand and take into account everyone's advise and honestly am planning to train with Creative as soon as I can afford it. I value everybody's opinion as you are all a very knowledgeable group of women and men.
Thanks once again,
Heather

L & P wont stay on my MIL at all, she was my model at Creative and I have done her since... and it always comes away whole she says... even with using the Nail Dehydrator... nothing works.. and nobody else has this problem.

I don't understand it at all, but any kind of nail polish does the same.

If it's any comfort to you I have a client's daughter who cannot keep gel nails on (guess what, she's a trainee hairdresser!) She is also late teens (I'm guessing at hormonal upheaval here!), oily skinned, stressy. According to her, her hands are in water at work more time than they're out of it. I know some say this shouldn't be a problem, and I have other hairdresser clients who are fine and people who swim daily and they're fine, but this one. . .

But l&p stays on fantastically on her! Not even a lift! hth xx

I just have to say somethimg here, 3 weeks ago i did a pair of Brisa on a friend.......I have done nails for 10 years.. but still 1½ week later she called me and said that the product was seperating from her free edge....hmm i normally do acrylic. but with Brisa i have only in the beginning when i tryed Brisa on my self, experienced seperating in the free edge...but still they where seperating from here free edge.
I did a new set on my friend and now 1½ week later... they seperate again....i do all i am surposed to do...so i dont get it, normally i would say she was a good kandidate for Brisa but on this one i am wrong.

normally when i do acrylics, they sit nicely for 5 weeks without lifting( some with a little bit of lifting)... this girl can go 4 weeks with acrylic and they lift...hmm....so i decided to try Brisa ...but big mistake, so now i will do acrylic on here again and then she must come back after 3 weeks.
