Evening geeks, Ive started a star chart this week, as advised by my Family Support Advisor at my daughters school, in aid for her to go to bed earlier.
Seems to be working so far :), but was just interested to see if other mums have used them , and if they worked ,and what exactly they rewarded for good behaviour is what Im most interested in.
I was going to give money as I thought this would work best for my child as thats what she likes , and she loves to spend , 50p a star ,but the FSA and a few friends have not recommended using money as Im basically paying her to go to bed early .Whats your views please?

Hi we have used star charts for both our boys. I have 2 VERY different boys 10 and 12 yrs, the younger a lot more able than his older brother. We rewarded school achievements to encourage the older one to keep doing his best. The younger one was for behaviour at home because he was being a bit of a bugger to say the least. It worked on both counts. We set the rules at completing the complete line of the chart with stars I think it was 20 per subject/good behaviour then they could have either £5 or some thing else to the same value so things like games, dvds, footy card etc etc. HTH

My son is 3 and I have been using them for about 6 months. I just set different goals once he has achieved each thing, for example his first reward chart (so sweet) has stars for, using big boy toilet, getting dressed without making a fuss etc. Now because he does those things all the time he has things like putting my toys away (obviously with my help) sleeping without a nappy, and getting dressed himself.

Its always worked really well for us and he LOVES putting the stars on (Im not sure how old your daughter is so it might not be so exciting :) )

I have always rewarded with things like an extra special pudding (something i wouldnt normally buy) being able to choose a toy or a trip out somewhere like the zoo. I always waited until he got about 10 stars until he got a reward as it gives him something to aim for.
xx
