I'm studying for my VCTC level 2 Nail Technology and have just completed the manicure unit so it's time to get my kit for enhancements. The tutor has said that we can buy whichever brand we want to use.....now my intention has always been to convert to CND asap after qualifying, but am aware that I aren't able to purchase liquid and powders until I have done a conversion, so am in a bit of a catch 22. I don't really want to buy twice (but realise I will have to) so what brand should I use for my training? I have all CND prep products as I have done the Creative Spa course.

The tutor said that they use 'the edge' products on the daytime course, but she wouldn't recommend it........the course I'm on is advertised as using NSI products, the tutor also mentioned that the 'Tammy Taylor' kit is reasonably priced and the products easy to work with. TBH I just wish I could start off right away with CND products, but I know I can't. In an ideal world I would have loved to start out with the CND foundation course, but at the moment college is my only option.

Any ideas?

Thank you, Lou xx

Young nails products are fab and really easy to work with. You could have a look at their website and ring them to discuss using their products, they are very friendly. :green:

Hi

I am doing the same course as you at the moment. At College they told us to use creative and we all got a starter kit from Ellisons on line which as about £130.00 which has everything in which is needed except clippers, Think you need a password to purchase, if you do sent me a pm

Hope this helps

Hope you are enjoying the course as well, I know I a I love it ! x x x

I thought Ellisons could only sell Creative if you had qualified with them. Can someone clarify this please?

If you are undergoing College eductaion and the college buys their training product from Ellisons then I would assume your college would recommend you purchase from Ellisons too. The girls in Customer Service ask for proff of certifiacte however if you are in the middle of training I think they allow you to purchase to finish up your course. Hope this helps :D

Thank you for clarifying that. If you finish your course using CND would you still have to do a conversion course before being able to purchase from Sweet Squared or Ellisons? I have a niece who is at college at the moment and they are not using a quality brand. She is very interested in CND and this would be helpful to know for her, especially if she could then continue with CND.

No problem. OK this is how we feel need to help students from college. If the student passes NVQ II or III, then we ask for a copy of there certificate but they can buy then and there - thay have a government qualification. If they have not been taught using CND however we automatically recomment the L+P Basics (conversion) - why, because at this point thay have no idea how to use CND to get the best out of the system for themselves and more specifically - their clients.

Hope this has clarified... ;)

Thanks for the quick reply. I will pass this on to her!

If have a client whom was also talking about doing a conversion she is currently doing a course basically not costing much atall I cant remember for life of me what or where it is ( I will find out ) and she was saying as soon as she gets qualified she will be doing the conversion with CND as it is only xx amount and you get your kit with brush etc with that and then she can use their stuff,

Just seems to me alot of people are going down this route lately, which ofcourse is fine when done with good intentions, but to deliberetly go and train with one system and have no ontention of sticking with it only to do convertion with other brand as its cheaper this way,, amazes me. Or is it wrong for me to think like this???:suprised:

I do see what you are saying....but it's not always as cut and dried. For me it is not merely about the money, although I must admit it did play a part in my decision to take the college route.

I have been out of the workforce for nearly 10 years now due to an ongoing health issue/illness. I find a full day very difficult to get through. with my college course I go for 3 hours one evening a week for 24 weeks.....if I am ill I miss only 1 session which is 1/24 th of the course and can easily be caught up with. The college is a half hour drive from me as opposed to an hour and a half to my nearest CND centre.
All I want to do is learn to be a great nail tech in a way which fits around my family, my health and within my budget. I don't think that means that I am doing anything wrong or that I am any less committed than someone able to go straight to CND.
I have done lots of reading and research and have decided that CND is the product/company I want to work with. I find their support and customer service fantastic and I fully intend to further my training with them beyond conversion.

I hope you don't think I'm upset or offended by your comments, because I aren't, but hope that my explanation my help people understand that it isn't always jus about the money!

Hi Lou, No as I said it is just the attitude of some (mainly young girls) and I am not being unfair saying this just find that I hear it an awful lot lately from this age group, not having a clue how hard it is to learn techniques procedure etc, but seem to think it's okay to use say CND products or NSI or anyother lesding brsnd and it will solve all there problems, they will be a great tech as they use these products. And sadly they aren;'t intrested in ongoing education or even intrested in nail anatomy or product chemistry even the basics, as long as they can do NAILS that look ok, thats fine, but if clients have problems lifting etc, they dont wanna know, they all to quick jump and blame them for picking etc, and could never ever blame theeir technique or products, as they use XXXX brand and its the best so it cant be that lol

Heared it far too often lately ohhh you use CND you dont get any problems with there products do you, etc,,,no its the techs technique which 9/10 will be the problem not the product, although yes it does help when having good products an awful lot I think it;s notunderstood that you need good undertanding of the products you use and WHY we use them and WHY we use diff techniques and abrasives etc. Sorry to ramble lol xxx
