Hi Geeks

Can anyone tell me if a beautician with the above cert would be covered for hot waxing or would that have to be a specialised course.

Unit BT6 Remove hair using waxing techniques (J/102/5363)

Many thanks

To be 100% sure i would check with their insurance provider as some have different requirements,
it always an advantage to have a certificate for both warm and hot wax use, hth

If it's NVQ VTCT then yes hot wax is covered, but not intimate waxing.

NVQ Level 2 qualifies you in all waxing types warm, hot, sugaring (at least it did when i was training) it's just techniques like brazilian/hollywood that you wouldnt be qualified for in nvq 2 because these are'nt usually taught during the level 2.types of wax however should all be covered. HTH. Lisa

She has recieved no hot wax training or information regarding the hot wax.....

Even various body parts (strip wax) were not covered at level 2.........The very basics only have been taught..

I will check with insurance to see if she would be covered...

Sounds like she'll be covered in the wax she was trained with, so check to see if they let you teach her hot wax. xx

Im so suprised at the level of training, its a disgrace that a student qualified to level 2 is not able or confident enough to perfom waxing treatments......

She had only covered legs, bikini, eyebrows & underarm, all with warm wax.

This is probably the norm but im shocked....

Thanks Kim ill check that out......Any news on East Mids yet? xx

I'm training there soon. Just need to sort out a date, but it will be in November. xx

The assessment for NVQ level 2 only covers warm wax (strip wax) - underarm, bikini, 1/2 leg!!!! Although during the course you also get brief training in eyebrows, upper lip and full leg - shown once by tutor and then carried out on your model (fellow sudent) if they were willing and had hair available!!! Our tutor give a quick demo on hot wax by applying a small area to a students forearm and removing!!!!

This was a part-time course (2 years - 1 night a week) which I completed in May 2008. So this is a fairly up to date qualification!!

I'm quite surprised by this, I completed my NVQ 2 Beauty Therapy in 2006 and the ranges printed in the file that we needed to be individually assessed on and signed off were: Bikini, Half Leg, Full Leg, Underarm, Lip, Chin, Forearm and Eyebrow although we were told that the tutors would like to show us hot wax but it wasn't included in the course anymore. This was City & Guilds, was yours VTCT? xx

I just completed Level 2 VTCT last year and these are the ranges I had to be assessed on too and we weren't passed on the first assessments either unless we were proficient. I think I am lucky that my college educators are passionate and thorough in what they teach as there are a lot that aren't.

We had to do warm waxing and hot wax or sugaring,I chose hot waxing. All areas were covered though not advanced intimate, which I had to do seperately. This was an NVQ level 2.Quite surprised that they are not teaching hot waxing as well anymore:irked:
We had a lady working for us who's wax training quite frankly was shocking.I had to re train her and she told me she learnt more from me in a week than she had in college over a year:eek:.TBH different colleges seem to vary hugely.I felt my college was excellent and am thankful I attended it when I did, judging by some levels of training/standards.

Hot wax is currently not in the standards for Bt6, but will be from next year when the standards change. :)

My training wa pretty basic and seemed to be rushed. Waxing is my weakness and I dislike it very much.
I am trying to save to go on kim lawless course.
