hey everyone my head of hair & beauty at college said i couldnt do level 2 beauty unless i pay for it but she said i could go straight on to level 3 beauty and either take the general route or massage route but i dont know really what i would be doing in the level 3 beauty so if anyone could give me some help and explain you would be doing me a big favour!!! i actually want to do level 2 beauty but decided im going to do individual courses in which areas i wish to be trained in such as make-up and facials :)

thank you

i thought that anybody who does not have a level 2 nvq can study for free thats what we were told. also i personally wouldnt go from level 1 to level 3 and i dont think many teachers would like that either as you wouldnt have the knowledge to go directly to a level 3 qualification as so much is covered. maybe im wrong but im sure most others that have studied beauty would think the same thing as level 3 is mainly electricals and without the understanding you gain from level 2 it would be very hard. Thats what i personally think anyway and like i said im probably totally wrong :Grope:

thanks for replying hun, i thought i would have to have my level 2 beauty aswell and im currently doing my level 2 hairdressing at college so i cant get funded again for a level 2 course...im really unsure on what to do i think itd be quite hard as i wouldnt have done level 2 because isnt level 3 more of an advanced course maybe ill be better off just doing individual courses

What course is this hun? With NVQ courses you cant just go straight onto level 3 without doing level 2.But i know places like Scola will allow you to do this. My friend did a level 3 ITEC a&p course along with massage. She then went to do NVQ level 2 (to do waxing etc).
Would you not be able to get funded at another college for level 2?

Also I would have a think about what it is you think you would be more interested in...the electrical route or the Holistic, maybe do a taster course.
I say this from experience as I started Level 3 in electrical's only to find out that it wasn't for me. I left the course and am now doing separate courses in Holistic treatments. It does work out more expensive but at least I am training in treatments that I want to be doing, rather than a whole package of treatments that I don't want to be doing. If that makes sense?

Yes hun it is much more advanced and I wouldnt reccomend anyone to do it unless they have done Level 2. Sorry thats probably not what you really want to hear but wouldn't want you to struggle.

Why don't you find an ITEC course? Or if you have a Scola near you check them out. You could do a facial course and run the a&p course along side it. Then if you wanted to branch out into other treatments such as massage you need your a&p level 3 , which you could also run along side your massage.
It all seems complicated to start with lol and i think it's so daft that they wont fund you for another level 2 course, it's just silly! Especially when you are so enthusiastic!

hey hun thanks for the reply again i might just go for the facial and make-up course that i wanted to do individual but where would be the best place to do them? i dont want to do it yet as im saving up for a nail course ive applied for but waiting for an interview which is in the summer

I would query this again if I were you because I know of several ppl that have done L2 hair and then gone onto do L2 and 3 beauty with the funding.
I know you can not get the funding to redo the same course even if there are changes in the content.
There is a maximum amout of years you can attend funded courses, I think this is 4 years, then you have to pay for any further training.

Facials and make up arn't coverd in the l3 at all hun.
You might be better off looking at a private company of evening classes for those...sadly you will prob have to pay for both.

thanks for the help both of you!!! i was thinking of doing courses through NSI for facials and make-up but not sure i wont be doing them yet as im just going to focus on getting on this nail course

do you have a finance office at college, because i had done a levels my level 3 wasnt free, but i had funding from the govemement and only had to pay £250 x

Im doing level 3 at the moment and i can tell you that it would be hard if you havent done level 2 especially the a&p, Level 3 mostly covers electrical treatments for the face and body and epilation, it also covers massage. Can you go straight onto level 3 because you did combined hair and beauty?

Hi there

Hope youre well, been a while since we chatted

Did you ever look into doing the ITEC Beauty Specialist at the Central Colleges of Health and Beauty Welcome | White Rose Beauty Colleges cos theres one at Nottingham which isnt too far by train (23 miles). I'm at the Leeds college (the course is great btw) and I didnt have to pay for course fees cos of my circumstances. On this course you definately cover facials and make up. I dont know your circumstances but you might just be eligible for free tuition.

just a thought
