i find my acrylic lifts after a week the nails never come on but they lift really bad any advice

The 2 main causes of lifting is soft tissue contact with your product or insufficient prep.

How long have you been trained for?

Which L+P products do you currently use?

Liquid to Powder Mix Ratio can cause lifting problems too..

im using salonsystem.iv been doing my own nails for about a year, havent done training yet as im waiting untill im able to do nvq in beauty.just wanted to get it right b4 then though .i have no probs in the application or prep but i just cant stop the lifting, not sure why cus they never come of even when i want them to lol

This is a toughy cause I'm thinking until you have completed some kind of training, you won't fully understand the nail, products etc.....I am sure you do a lovely job but you really do need to attend college to learn where you are going wrong. As said before there are a number of reasons for lifting, we could be here all day! Obvious one is insufficient prep.

The best advice I can give is get enrolling, it can be quite dangerous applying chemicals without proper training as I'm guessing you don't understand contra-indications.

There are many courses that just specialise in nail enhancements alone, have you contacted Creative Nail Design?

Sorry if im repeating what others have said (i probably am lol)

The main reasons for lifting could be, contaminated brush, contaminated product, poorly applied product ie: Product touching the cuticle or not enough nail prep.

Practice makes perfect ;)

Hi I think you are putting the cart before the horse here.....you will be taught how to do things properly on a course, as regards health & safety, mix ratio, application etc. how can you hope to be doing it right before actually being shown how by a qualified Educator?
To be honest it could end up more difficult for you when you eventually do get some training, as you will have some bad habits & working practises that will need to be corrected before you can learn how to do it properly.

There is a problem with something if you are getting lifting, and as most of the others have said, in new students it is mostly with their prep or application.

Could you talk us through your prep, and maybe we can pinpoint where the problem is.

I totally agree, every product is different.. If you have to wait for school than wait for school.. You are learning on a product you may not even use in school. You may think you are getting a head start, but I'm sure it will end up being a problem when it comes down to the product you will be trained on..

I used to use Salon System too, and all those other products from Sallys and used to get lifting too, it wasn't until I went to do training in a different product i.e: Bio Sculpture, lifting is a thing of the past for me, get trained in a decent product hun N.xxx

This is an contradictory statement if ever I saw one lol!

Sorry hun but how can you be sure you have no problems in the application or the prep if you haven't done any training? One or other of those two things will be why you are getting the lifting. End of.

The trouble is, because professionals make it look easy, people think it is easy.

I know I'm going off on one here, but if I had a pound for every client that says "I'm thinking of doing a nail course", they somehow see it as a glamorous lifestyle! What about having to work evenings and weekends? Going out in the cold? Last minute cancellations to contend with? Yes we do make it look easy, (prior to my training I always used to look at my nail tech and think, I could do that , until my first day at CND manchester when I had my first attempt at l & p and thought sugar! I can't blooming do it!) only after completing 4 CND courses and an NVQ in beauty therapy do I think I know my stuff, however, even now I question myself!!

So the moral of the story is, GET TRAINING! There is no way you will be able to do nails 100%, even if they look fab now, there are many other issues you need to learn about. A good nail service only starts with a good-looking set, how long will they last though? How will the natural nail look when your acrylics have been soaked off?

Good luck in your training research and keep us posted on what you are doing.:)

yeah hun u r right,i only started doing my own cus i got fed up paying for them to be done and not being happy with the end results.what short courses do u recomend ?cus i eventualy want to do nvq but at the mo i cant, have you heard of b.a.b.t.a.c are they any good and is this a reconigsed qualification?would appreciate any advice

i have just done a one day course just for acrylics and gel at a college. I got a qualification which allows me to further on to nvq and become a member of BABTAC. This allows me to get insurance for when i practise on people. To be honest i know some things but i am going to train for my NVQ as there is alot of things i do not know. If you do a course i would recommend a longer one as there's only so much you can learn in one day!:)

i do eventualy want to do an nvq but i am not able at the moment just thought maybe i could do a short course first then later on do a proper longer one ,i only want to do my own anyway at the moment.but there are so many courses to choice from thats why im here asking you cus you are all professinals and know your stuff, thats what i thought this site was about people with any questions could get them answered its a shame that some people on here have to mean when all im doing is asking for some advice.thank you for your help

It's not that people are being mean but we aren't here to provide free training instead of doing a course if you see what I mean...... Most of us have spent hundreds of pounds/dollars/euros training and don't see why we should just have our brains picked by someone with no training of their own....

Even if you want to only do your own nails you need to know what you're doing. There are plenty of short courses around that are good - Creative, EzFlow, Young Nails, NSI etc all offer Foundation courses which are for beginners.

This site is about asking questions and sharing experience - it's not here to replace formal training. I'm not 'being mean' I'm just offering you my experience and advice......

hth's

thank you i do understand what you are saying , i know you have all spent lots of money on your courses and im not trying to skip doing a course and freeload or anything .im sorry if iv offended anyone i just wanted some advice ,theres a short course near me its toptalons its with b.a.b.t.a.c but as i wrote b4 there are so many out there and i dont know what ones are the best, its really daunting .

I don't know anything about this Company so cannot comment.
I and many others have trained with Creative and I cannot speak highly enough of the products and training.
I'm sure many others will recommend their own brand too.:)

Training and ONGOING training is the key hun.

Choose a reputable, respected nail brand that believes in this ethos, and that can deliver the result for your clients....you cant go far wrong.:)

Exactly how long do you mean by a short course?

I.e. do you mean those that do everything in one day or those that do the foundation over 5 days that take place over a matter of weeks for you to practice in between.
