I trained at the London Institute of Beauty Culture hundreds of years ago (1987) and in all my years as a beauty therapist have never met anyone else who did or has heard of it!
It was on Tottenham Court Road in London and run by the Morris's.
I did CIBTAC and CIDESCO and it was really hard work in those days but I absolutely loved it!
Just wondered if any geeks had trained there at all/around the same time so we could "compare notes" and reassure me that I haven't imagined it all!!

I don't know if you ever received any replies, but no you didn't imagine it. I trained there with Noah and his ark back in 1979/ 1980. It was a fantastic college and I have very fond memories of Ken and Mavis Morris, Also Mrs Page and Mrs Eashwar and Miss Keane. It all seems like yesterday.

 I trained at The London Institute of Beauty Culture in 1976 it was the best time of my life. I remember the Morrises's very well. I did the Confederation of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology diploma and my electrolysis teacher was Loukia Nicola. I mislaid my certificate over the years and am thinking of practicing again. Does anyone out there know how I would go about getting a copy ? Thanks.

Hello! You have not imagined it! It has taken me years to even find this pot! I was there too - i think it may have been 1978/79. I also remember most of those teachers mentioned here and Mis Alcox too. Whatever happened to this Institute??? Shame! I have tried looking up old classmates at the time!

Hi Sara i also attended the college a bit before your time in 1976/77, great place n great tutors and all the pupils i met were lovely

Did you find where to get a dupicate copy by any chance as i am in the same boat .

Hi Christie.W

If you go on to CIBTAC website apparently there is an email address somewhere that you can enquire about lost certificates, I am going to try it and see how I get on, will let you know.

I trained there in 1984/5 and I only know that because tonight I have looked for my diplomas as I'm planning to practice again! I used to go two or three evenings a week for a year. I used to finish at the salon in Kensington High Street and then have dinner in McDonalds in Tottenham Court Road before walking over the road to the LIBC to train between 6-9pm, before getting a tube home to Leyton E10.

We had loads of fun. I loved my training there and because I was so young I had heaps of energy!

I'm wondering if I'll have to retrain to get insurance to practice, given that it was 30 years ago! Does anyone know? :)

I don't think you do. You can do refresher courses that can bring you up to date - we offer these - and just get insurance and start working.

Feel free to contact us for further information.

Wow. What a kick! I trained at LIBC 81/82, and taught there 83-84(?)! I remember M/M Morris so very well, and their daughter Davina was in my course for BABTAC and CIDESCO certifications. Mandy, Sara, Sarah, Bharti...I remember so many faces and not enough names. Wonderful days there, so many memories!

My career went in a different direction after my first year back in London (to PR) and continued when I returned to the US in 87. Gosh I wonder if I have these years right.

Anyway, I'm out to get copies of credentials and re-up skills; same as many of you who have already posted. Does anyone still have their notebooks?

Please do share any updates, connections, news on the Morris family and of course what happened to LIBC!

With this thread dating back to 2011, many of the posters to this thread have been absent for a long while.

If you still need your questions answered, it may be worthwhile creating a new thread.

I may try that in time, good suggestion. Will give it a while here, first, since posts seem to cover 2011-to date. Give it a shot!

Hi Penny
I remember you and all of those girls you are talking about. My name is Kerrie and I was in your class there. Great times and great memories. Mr Morris even offered me a job working at the Sanctuary in Covent Garden after qualifying. I am still in touch with Brenda, she was Irish. Do you remember either of us?
Our training at the Institute was fantastic. Once a beauty therapist always a beauty therapist haha. I worked for several years in beauty and I still dabnle in nails as a Shellac nail technician (Instagram: nailshackherts). I then went into teaching and then went to University and qualified as a counsellor after 4.5yrs of study. I specialise with children and work through art and work with adults with drug and alcohol addictions. What about you?:)

I trained at the LIBC in 1976. I remember it so well getting there on the Tube. Did BABTAC and then did CIDESCO later in Tunbridge Wells with Joan Thornycroft. I am from the island of Jamaica and currently reside in Florida. Great to be in touch with you all.

Hi
I trained there 1985/86.
I never met anybody either on my years in the beauty industry. Yesterday I bumped into a class friend in Liberty.... amazing
