Hello!
Wondering if anyone can help....
I have completed my NVQ Level 2 in Beauty and now almost completed level 3 (only epilation left!). I've been trying very hard to get work in a salon but a lot of the salons want someone experienced. I've gone round with my CV personally, sent tonnes of CVs out and been patient and now I wondering what else I can do. Just need someone to give me a chance. I definitely don't think it was be the best idea to set up on my own - I want to be able to work in a salon to get tips and learn from others! Any ideas???

I take it you have checked out the papers for therapy job ads? I must admit we interview a lot of therapists to find the ones right for our salon. The key mistakes therapists make when inexperienced are; being poorly groomed at interview, not switching phones off, claiming to be more experienced than they are, asking for way too much salary at first, and lastly, aggressively expecting that the salon will accomodate thier needs/ wishes/ working hour requirements.

You could write a lovely letter to the salons that you like the look of, and ask if they would be prepared to give you a weeks work experience without pay. if you explain that you have heard what a terrific salon it is and how good they are and you would love to see their methods, most salon owners will at least try and help you.
If you can get in by doing work experience and make a good impression, when jobs become available your name will spring to mind.
Another thing to remember is to stress that you want to become a salon therapist. The amount of interviews i ended when the therapists said her ambition is to be mobile is uncountable!
Sorry to ramble but to me, it's a breath of fresh air reading a post from someone wanting to do well within a salon environment!
