Hiya all..

I am currently doing my VTCT Nail Treatments course at the local college, We are only doing it over 18 weeks (3 hours, 1 night a week) and i thought it was going well.

But after reading... hundreds lol ... of posts on here i feel that a lot of the things we are been taught at college are deamed as the things not to do. i.e. soaking the hand 4 times in total through the manicure....nipping the cuticle.

I am begining to feel as if i am going to need to be retrained when i've finished this course as to give the best manicure for the clients....it's different to what i'm been learnt now. I'm not feeling as confident as i was.

I would absolutely love to do a creative course, but financially it is just impossible for at least the next year or so :(

I also wanted to go on and do the extensions after this course, but i'm now having second thoughts, are they going to any good??.

Should i just finish the course then forget about it untill i can get myself on a creative course next year?? I don't want to just give a manicure.....i want to give a great one!

Thanks for listening to my moan lol

Good for you hun ! I know exactly how you feel i was in a very similar situation.

Continue with your course, and then if CND is the way you want to go,book onto a course. The courses are extremely well priced as you end up with the full kit and training free in effect, plus great education.

Don't worry hun,you will continue to learn in this industry and your attitude says a lot about you

have you spoken to your tutor about your concerns? which college are you at? maybe you could change colleges? Some geeks have had awful experiences at college, but some have had great times and learnt lots to a very high standard.

best of luck hun x

thanks guys..

I havn't said anything to her no. To be honest i don't feel she's all that approchable either. but we are also in half term, so i might try and talk to her on Tuesday when i go back. I am in S****horpe and it's the only college in town that does beauty.

I guess i'm just feeling really frustrated. It's something i want to be really good at, but i've also just found out im pregnant. So it's put the rest of my training off for another year now too. I just feel like i'm never going to get it done, and the training i am managing to do is worthless.....well maybe not worthless but not near the standard i want it to be.

Hi, i from north lincs but the college i go to we are doing city and guilds. The course is great, have learnt so much and had lots of assignments. We only soak at the beginnng of treatment to soften cuticle and only use nippers to remove any hangnail or excessive cuticle and not the skin of the nail fold. i feel very confident once i finish i will be qualified to go mobile and move on to the next level.

P.S I live nearer to that college , glad i decided to go to the other one even though it's 10 miles further :) xx

Hi,
I did VTCT and we did the same. Why is it wrong? Just learn the procedure then tailor it to yours and your clients needs. All courses are bound to offer variations, but it doesn't mean that yours is wrong (but granted, a bit longwinded). Don't forget that you'll also be learning the anatomy and physiology and Health and Safety as well.
The only thing I'd query would be the cuticle nipping. We were also taught to nip it, but I think that once you've used the cuticle remover then, and only then, if there is a lot of loose cuticle left, then you can decide whether to nip that, but don't nip as a rule. Also, educate your client. Recommend a cuticle oil to use daily to condition, soften and nourish.
I'd continue with the course if I were you, but if you have any problems, you should try and talk with your tutor.
Claire x
