I have only been spraying for a couple of months but became really confidence in what I was doing as I have been getting some brilliant feedback.

Last weekend I had a problem with my gun where it was spraying a bit of colour, stopping and then starting again.

I thoroughly cleaned my gun and it seemed a lot better but it still doesn't seem to be spraying right. When you spray down a bit of couch roll the right hand side of the stripe is coming out darker which is giving a streaky effect. And when I am spraying somebody, I am noticing that the solution seems to be going off towards the right a lot more, which would explain the streakiness.

Because of this I am using far more solution than I should be as I am worried that my client is going to come out uneven and streaky. I got down to using around 35ml but seem to be using near on 50ml now.

This is really making me lose my confidence and eating away at my profit.

Do you think that my needle could be damaged, as I can't understand what might be causing this.

Sorry for the long rant but really frustrated and need some guidance.

I would call wherever you bought your machine from as it may be that there is something wrong with it if you have cleaned it and checked all the settings on it, please dont let this damage your confidence, im sure once you get it checked out you will see just how good your tans really look. When i very first started spray tanning i carried on spraying my sister thinking it was me and i just hadnt set my machine properly she was soaking wet lol each time i very nearly gave up.

what machine have you got maybe one of the many tanners on here have the same one and live nearby??

Thanks Kelshah, I have the T200. I have had a few tans this week which have turned out okay but I can tell that they do not look as good as they used to and they are coming out slightly stripey looking.

I am quite a perfectionist as I am sure most people on here are and it is really annoying to not be 100% happy when you leave a clients house.

I have three clients tomorrow and really not looking forward to it. I will have to ring Collin at Wow tomorrow to see if he can give me any advice.

have you had a good look at the needle to see if it looks bent or anything? Can't say I've ever experienced stripey clients so I'm guessing really...

If you have dried the parts with a towel or couch roll before putting it all back together you may have a bit of fluff stuck in there (behind one side),
if the needle was damaged it would spray speckled, so you would see dots of solution on the skin as you were spraying, hth

I haven't noticed the needle being bent and I have taken the gun apart a few times. I have not noticed any fluff but I can definitely see the solution spraying off to the right. I'm stumped why its going off in one direction more than another!

Are you in a hard water area, maybe the limescale has built up more on the one side,
i know one thing, i wish i was closer so i could get my hands on it for you and sort it out

Thanks Loubylou. Yeah, I am in a hard water area. I have only had the gun a couple of months so could this happen so quickly?

I wish you were here too, so you could sort it out for me. I feel a bit lonely where I am as have no fellow geeks nearby!

I would think it is a problem with your air nozzle.
The air nozzle has 2 little holes either side. If one side is blocked then air will only be coming out of one hole this forces the pattern in the direction of the blocked hole.
Try poking a tooth pick in and see if anything comes out.
If you live in a hard water area then always clean your gun with distilled water.
Once you've replaced the air nozzle make sure it isn't loose.

Thanks Angelina, I will take a look at this. I take the air nozzle is the silver part where you can change the direction of the spray etc..

Jackie,
from the various postings you have been making you seem to be making good head way...your mixing solutions and got down to 35ml...that's pretty good going

Don't let this get to your confidence.

Strip the gun down....inspect all the holes and clean (with a wooden tooth pick as suggested is good) make sure none of the holes are blocked.

Lubricate all the parts as hard water areas do cause a problem and have another try..if this doesn't work feel free to call in and we will see if we can help you any further

Thanks Collin. I have three clients tonight and will see how things go and when I get home I will do the above and see how I go.

Everything was going so well and I was really chuffed with myself. What is the best way to look after my gun if you live in a hard water area. I always dry all the parts of my gun straight away. Should I lubricate everything regularly, i.e every week, two weeks etc...

Get a routine going if your in a hard water area of lubricating every time you strip the gun down..only takes seconds.

By lubricating regularly it not only will improve the action of the moving parts but drastically help reduce any lime scale build up.

Maybe every 2 months or so thoroughly wipe the needle with a lime scale remover..(vinegar can do the trick but make sure you wash the needle under running water after and before lubricating)

Another possibility if its spraying to the right...make sure
1) You properly tighten the locking ring around the nozzle when you put the gun back together
2) Check to see if the little white odd shaped PVC gasket is sitting correctly or hasn't been damaged

HTH
