Hi everyone

Just thought I should finally introduce myself after reading through all the posts for the last couple of weeks and generally lurking about!!

I'm not currently trained (but will hopefully be booked soon) and I work full time in an office. My goal is to eventually be a full time mobile nail tech even though its currently a long way off!

One thing that caught my attention however is the poll on what you guys are all earning. Granted when you first set up, money will be pretty much non existent but is it proper rare to regularly take home £500 per week (before tax). Basically can you live off of this profession full time because it didnt appear that way?! I'm single and not yet a home owner. If I was unable to eventually make that sort of money I doubt I'd ever afford anywhere to live! I know its probably too much of a hypothetical question for anyone to really help because I know there is so much to take into account when it comes to how much you're gunna earn so sorry, I know you all hear questions like this a lot  Just thought I ask anyway?!

I'm also plannin on starting a poll asking how many clients people have in a week (per nail tech) but didnt want to do it until I'd sent a hello post!! Do people think they would answer that?

Sorry if I've rambled!!

Hi and welcome to the family, I work part time as a mobile tech as I have a full time job, so I can't answer your question on making a living,
I am not sure but I am sure some sort of poll has been done before on how much you could earn, try doing a search. :)

Hello! It is TOTALLY possible to live well in this profession! Keep in mind, though, that it does require a lot of commitment (i.e., lots of hours) and it will take a while to build your skills and ANOTHER while to build your clientele.

Are you thinking of working for yourself straight away vs. going on with a company?

Hi, thanks for the replies.

Well once I'm trained and I've discovered how well I pick the skill up I'll be more certian what way I want to do it. I dont think going straight to full time, self employed, new tech is a good idea as it would feel far too risky but I have toyed with the idea of either:
going part time self employed first
or working full time in a salon until I feel I can do it
or lastly doing the salon thing for a year and the doing some cruise ship work (although for that I'd need the NVQ I think).

At least with the last option I'd be able to save some money to help kick start going self employed, however, with the hours you do I may be dead by then!! I'm lucky that I know a couple of web designers aswell as graphic designers and people who work in print companies (how well connected am i?!) who would help me out with my marketing material so hopefully I wouldnt need to pay out a bucket load to start off but at least I will have money to live on through the slow start. Well thats my plan if I do go for the cruise.

I have soooo many people in my friends and family badgering me to get the course booked. They all get their nails done and they all think I would be good it at hence the decison to look into it. Time will tell if I am actually any good mind!

Well, you're here, so that means you want to be good, and if you really want to be good, you will do the things that will make you good! Doing it right, I mean. =)

Cruise ships sound fun. As for self-employment, renting a booth in a salon can be a good way to start. However, working in a salon with other Techs may help build your skills (as well as keeping up on the continuing ed) because they can give you tips from experience. AND you get the added bonus of developing a regular clientele that may move with you when you're ready. Not that I'm encouraging stealing or anything like that!!

Hello Lurker lOL Enjoy! xxx:hug:

HI FROM A FELLOW SOUTH WEST GEEK, WHERE ABOUT ARE YOU , AND WELCOME TO THE SITE, IT HAS BEEN INVALUBLE TO ME:hug:

Its turning out to be invaluable to me too! I've always believed you learn the most from the people who are actually doing it.

I just cant wait to get some training on the go so I can practice and work out what my problem areas are going to be etc. I've mailed sweet squared to get some stuff in the post. Its frustrating that by the time I get home from work they are closed so I cant phone but hey, they need to go home at some time!

Does anyone on the off chance know much about dates for training in Oxford seeing as I'm over swindon way? I could do training in Bristol aswell I guess as thats not far either. x

You can only get training dates from the company. Cool thing is you are in Amanda Fontanarrosa's area .... one of CND's awesome educators and just voted CND International Educator of the year at a huge event in California. A real tribute to her.
Can't you ring during your lunch break for dates? Where there's a will there's a way! 08452106060

I thought about calling on my break but I get half an hour so by the time I've eaten etc I wont have very long left and I'd rather not have to rush my first call with them iykwim?? I spose the other option is just to go in mega early then wangle leaving early! Yea gunna try that tomorrow I reckon :green:

Hello and welcome to the site, its a great place to be :)
Hope you get some training sorted soon
