Hi
I use MAC for most brides with good skin- love the buildable coverage from full coverage pro foundation. Also Bobbi Brown foundation stick and liquid foundation for drier skins. Just waiting to go on Airbase course at end if the month so hoping that will cover most situations. X
Also tried Illamasqua skinbase on myself recently and loved it but haven't seen it photographed yet !

Lan Nguyen recommends Mac Full coverage Pro... Is it good? I have always disliked Mac foundations and have had an unbelievable amount of clients moan about it, but Lan uses it and her make up is incredible, so I might try it!

Thank you :)

Has anyone tried Eyes Lips Face foundations??

I bought the entire Range ( theres only 6 shades) of their foundation, not the tint but the full coverage foundation and I really love it, It's got great coverage and yellow undertones. Only con is how long it lasts... But I'm not entirely sure I think that because I was looking for a reason to find fault with it, because it seems too good to be true at £6.50 I think I might try the darker colours as a contouring foundation.

Thanks ladies. I'm loving this thread. I wonder if the mods would do a separate geek board for MUA?

Sigma brushes are a great alternative to MAC/Crown too.. Don't know if they've been mentioned yet!

That's a great idea, I hope they do!

MAC brushes do tend to shed because most of them are animal hair. If you can find synthetic ones they don't shed.

Real Techniques brushes are AWESOME and all synthetic. My ONLY gripe with these brushes is that some of the ones I'd like to double up on, you can only get as part of sets.

Aveda's brushes are also synthetic and so are Illamasqua's and Furless'.

I have a fluffy brush from Illamasqua that I adore for doing smokey eyes. In fact, I love it so much I bought another one and am probably going to buy 1 more next time I order with them! hehe.

Love this thread!

What would you say is the best range of foundations for brides make up. All I'm hearing about is illamasqua! Whats your opinion?

Or even bridal make up... damn phone lol

I use predominantly Graftobian, Lancome and Kett for bridal foundation

Yep, Illamasqua brushes are AMAZING! Super soft and don't shed at all. I love the brow brush best, it's much bigger than a standard brow brush.

I have MAC Face & Body and Illamasqua's skin base in my kit at the moment (and Airbase and OCC for the airbrush). I'm not a massive fan of MAC foundations, but F&B is ok.

Really I would love to have Makeup Forever's HD Foundations, they're my favourite, but they're too pricey and I can't get to london to get my discount in PAM for a while yet.

Hello all
I am half way through my level 2 in beauty therapy and really enjoyed the make-up unit. I feel that I could really go far specialising in this area and would be greatful for any tips on what my best route would be to become a makeup artist?

Thankyou
Flutterfly x

It depends really what kind of Make up Artist you would like to specialize in, general Bridal, special occasion etc,or Photographic, fashion, film, Theatre etc but really either way a decent real make up course is indispensable some might say watch you tube and learn from practicing on your mates etc, etc all knowledge is good knowledge, but i can't help believing to be a professional make up artist you have to really know the trade and the best place to start is a professional course, internships used to be a excellent way to learn also. There are as always the exceptions that make it without but these as said are an exception

Great to see all your replies geeks.

If anyone else has any secrets or tips please share :) xx

Just to let you know, the Real Techniques brushes are hitting Boots tomorrow. I'm pretty addicted to Pixiwoo at the moment so will defo be trying out the brushes. :)

Louise Young brushes are amazing, especially the round foundation brush.

I have at least 6 MAC 217's as they are so versatile.

White Face & Body foundation from MAC is essential, cannot live without it. Great to mix into other foundations.

Benefit High Beam gets used on most brides, especially on the décolleté.

Have at least 2 different types of foundation, primer & moisturiser for different skin types.

Tit tape is very handy to have along with all the other random stuff already mentioned.

Makeup Forever Mist & Fix is fab for setting make-up, love it.

Layer blusher, cream first then powder on top, lasts longer and looks great.

Always give the photographer your business card and ask them for an image for your portfolio (don't forget to get the Brides permission to use it).

Keep a disposable set of brushes handy just in case one of the bridesmaids has a really bad skin condition that I don't want contaminating my own brushes. The Pro Make-up Shop do a great set.

Chanel do a great Brow set with 3 different colour powders.

You will be photographed a lot if the Bride has asked her photographer to be there while she is getting ready so make sure you have painted fingernails and clean hair. Keep your own make-up, jewellery and perfume to a minimum.

Never be late - ever.

I could keep on going but I've got to go to work now!

Those are all great tips, Sharkster!

I just bought a couple of Louise Young liner brushes (after seeing the Pixiwoo girls use them so often). Looking forward to trying it out.

Good to hear about the Real Techniques brushes coming to Boots, although I do wish you could get some of the brushes individually that you can currently only get in the set. It'd be good to have back ups of the deluxe crease, shadow and buffing brushes, as I use those a lot. Having said that though, the sets are reasonably prices.

Oh and I'm sure it's been said but avoid stuff like strobe cream or foundations with SPF for bridal / photographic work. Just take a look at my avatar to see what strobe cream does when a flash hits it! SHINY HEED!!

Graftobian... I'm looking at the website, it's a us site I think. What is it I'm actually looking at for brides? Any recommendations which product to buy to give it a go x
