Hi,

I think its a good idea to have some glitter liquid liners for prom make ups, works a treat.
High lighters, lip liners, base coat for eye make up,head band,Liquid eyeliners for clients(me included)who like flicks and a more defined line, lipsticks, you will need both several shades in normal foundation and foundation for the mature skin.Lots of different shades of eyeshadows and lipgloss.

I use several make up ranges,Urban Decay is one of my firm favourites and they do a wonderful range of Heavy Metal glitter eyeliners.HTH a little.

Hi Girls - Did you guys do any extra makeup courses? I did makeup as part of my nvq 2 and i am very confident doing my own makeup etc - do you think another course is needed for more up to date techniques/looks or will the nvq books and training be enough??

Hi,I have always been very keen on make up and did a lot even before I did my NVQ training.I think if you are confident in your application etc then that's okay but if not then maybe you will feel you need to enrole on another make up course.

I wouldn't say when I did the make up unit in my level 2 was particularly good but it taught me the basics and gave me lots of ideas,I suppose it depends in the lecturer as well, and if she has an interest in make up or not.

Make up courses can give you lots of invaluable tips and ideas, but they wont make you a good artist, only practicing will make you good.

I would firstly try practicing as much as possible, experiement with colours, blending etc.Dont be afraid with make up.Read all you can and look on sites such as You tube where there are loads of tutorials that can give you lots of inspiration.

If you feel you need more then go for it.I love make up,and I am always buying new things.Bobbi Brown,Mac,Urban Decay etc,I have tons of the stuff and take great pleasure in doing make ups for my clients, myself and family and friends. The more you do the more confident and daring you will become.HTH a little.

When starting to put together your kitd do you all buy loads of different foundation shades or just a couple to start off with x

When buying foundation, my make up tutor told us to buy one of the lightest shades, then a couple of shades up, then when you mix them together you will achieve the colour you want... obviously when mixed it will not achieve staright away but then adding little by little....

thanks for your replies.
i did a basic make up course then a bridal.
but to be honest the bridal one taught me nothing i didn't already know.
just practiced loads really,
i'll get a few shades of foundation and the glitter liners then,
anything else guys?????
xxx

do you plan to use primers? would highly recommend it, will make all the difference to the finish of your base .. not sure if available duty free, but i highly recommend laura merciers primers, also clinique eyeshadow primer
what colour powder have you got? hardly use white or trans as tends to make the skin look "ashy" i mostly use yellow bb powder, as i find it suits most skin tones - in fact most skin tones are yellow based, took a while for me to be converted (several mua recommend it on makeupadviceforum) but has made all the difference to the final finish, benefit also do a great yellow concealer and powder
i too recommend urban decay - their book of shadows are perfect for bridesmaids, proms etc or anyone who would like a little colour
clinique eyeshadow quads are also a great buy for under £30 - love teddy and strawberry fudge, perhaps you could pick them up duty free?
do you know which neut mac eyeshadows you plan to put in your palette?

i can let you know the ones i use the most, also worth investing in gel eyeliners they give a more natural look - i like bb, can get away with 3 or 4

Screenface primer i love it!, You defo need to use a primer!! False lashes individual and strip ones most of my brides have a few at the end it just finishes it off. I woulod suggest you do your foundation after your eyes that way there is no smudging onto the foundation or caking under the eye. Just a tip.!!:D

primers wil;l be top of my list then,
er not sure what nuetral to get??
also the loose power (i will invest in the bb yellow)
is that what i use kinda instead of a tissue under the eye
thanks x

here are some mac neutral eyeshadows i use a fair bit for bridals :
gesso
nylon
vanilla
shroom
brule
naked lunch
soft brown
cork
satin taupe
twinks
woodwinked
amber lights
espresso
retrospeck
orb
coppering

+ carbon, a black

did you say you were planning to buy bb eyeshadows also, i dont have too many but love :
sterling
gold
heather
slate
burgandy

i use bb slopes and peony blushers a fair bit

if nars have a duty free counter, items i regularly use:
albatross highlighter, gorgeous
orgasm blusher
deep throat blusher
their bronzers are really good also
they also have gorgeous palettes, but try not to buy mixed cream / powder cosmetics as powder can break and mess up your creams

and for the lady that pmd me for popular lippy shades, i have been using a lot of clinique buttershine recently, mostly:
adore u
delovely
baby baby
pinkaboo
pink goddess
all heart - long last, love this and use on myself!

+ all of macs viva glams

re: primers, dont forget you'll need different ones for different skin types - i know will seem expensive, but really really worth it and a little goes a long way - smashbox is also good and slightly cheaper than LM

apparently the art deco eye primer is becoming a cult makeup item thanks to youtube, have yet to try it myself but im planning to have a rep come visit me before i start up again after mat leave
